Mr. Willie Nickerson, Jr. of 525 Gordon Street, Ashburn, Georgia, died Saturday, June 20, 2026, at his residence.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, June 27, 2026 at 11:00 AM in the sanctuary of the New Providence Baptist Church in Ashburn, Georgia.
Willie Nickerson, Jr., affectionately known as "Chilly Willie," was born on November 20, 1965, in Turner County, Georgia. He was the beloved son of Willie Nickerson, Sr., and Janie Mae Jackson.
Willie graduated from Turner County High School in 1984. During his time there, he formed lifelong friendships and laid the foundation for his future endeavors.
He was a member of the New Providence Missionary Baptist Church in Ashburn, Georgia.
Willie's love for fishing and sports, especially for the Atlanta Falcons and Braves, was well-known. He cherished spending time by the water, casting his line and enjoying the serenity of nature. His enthusiasm for sports was infectious, often sparking lively discussions with friends and family.
In his earlier days, Willie had a passion for carpentry work, particularly with hardwood floors. His craftsmanship and dedication to his work were evident in every project he undertook.
Family was paramount to Willie. He loved spending as much time as possible with his family, often enjoying long phone conversations that kept him connected with loved ones near and far.
He is preceded in death by his father, Willie Nickerson, Sr. and Curtis Jackson, who raised him as his own. His step brothers, Curtis Jackson, Jr. and Antonio Jackson along with his aunts, Johnnie Mae Newberry, Maudean (John) Minifield, Rosa (Arthur) Ball, Elizabeth Jackson, Leon (Rose) Jackson, Willie B. (Inez) Jackson, and Katherine Jackson, also precede him in death.
Willie "Chilly Willie" Nickerson, Jr. touched the lives of everyone he met, and his memory will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Willie transitioned on Saturday, June 20, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and heartfelt connections. He forever remembered by his mother, Janie Mae Jackson of Ashburn, Georgia; his son, Courtney Nickerson of Cordele, Georgia; his sisters, Elaine Oliver and Mellason (Patrick) Clayton, both of Ashburn, Georgia; and his brother, Albert Nickerson of Ashburn, Georgia; a stepsister, Gail Brown of Cordele, Georgia; his aunts and uncles: Pearl Lee Nickerson (Albert) Pierce of Ashburn, Georgia, Diane (Arthur) Tomblin of Tifton, Georgia, Vera Mae Mobley of Cairo, Georgia, Lula Bell Johnson (Samuel) of Ashburn, Georgia, Roy Lee Newberry of Ocala, Florida, Sherry Newberry of Albany, Georgia, Debbie Ann Mack, and George Lewis, both of Ashburn, Georgia; his cousin, Cynthia Newberry Gross of Ashburn, Georgia, whom he regarded as a sister; his nieces and nephews, Shalundra Nickerson of Daytona Beach, Florida, Titayna Nickerson of Tifton, Georgia, Dylan Oliver of Ashburn, Georgia, and Premethius Mackey of Atlanta, Georgia; his special long-time friend, Tunja Downs of Cartersville, Georgia, and a host of cousins, other relatives, and many sorrowing friends.
