Mr. Willie Lee Hawkins of 476 Lamar Road, Americus, Georgia died Monday, September 4, 2023 at the Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele, Georgia.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at 11:00 AM in the sanctuary of the Friendship Baptist Church in Americus, Georgia. The burial will follow at the Spring Creek Church Cemetery in Cobb, Georgia.
Willie Lee Hawkins was born June 21, 1966 in Sumter County, Georgia. He was born to Deacon Johnny L. Hawkins, Sr. and Mrs. Meland Holt Hawkins.
Willie or "Dogg" as he was called by those who knew him best, was educated in the public school system. He graduated in 1986 from the Vienna High School. After graduation he continued his education at South Georgia Tech where completed his courses in Drafting and Mechanical Maintenance in 1987 and 1988.
Early in his life, he joined the Spring Creek Baptist Church where he served as an Usher. He later united with the Gethsemane Baptist Church where he was an active member of the Brotherhood Ministry.
He enjoyed being around his family. An expert on the grill, he started the first Hawkins Family Cook-off. Along with cooking, he also enjoyed fishing, hunting and joking around with his family and friends.
On Monday, September 4, 2023 he transitioned from this life. His father, Deacon Johnny L. Hawkins, Sr. and his brother, Mr. Freddie Hawkins both precede him in death.
Memories of his life will live on in the hearts of his loving and devoted children, Ms. Keyonia Young of Warner Robins, Georgia, Mr. Jarrett Hawkins of Dallas, Texas, and Mr. Jarkeeys Smith of Americus, Georgia; a beloved grandson, Master Damian Young of Warner Robins, Georgia; his loving and devoted mother, Mother Meland Holt Hawkins of Americus, Georgia; his loving and caring siblings, Deacon Johnny (Nancy) Hawkins, Jr. Mr. Buster Hawkins, Mr. Solomon (Jeanette) Holt of Americus, Georgia, Mrs. Lizzie (Willie) Spencer of Macon, Georgia, Deacon William (Carlon) Hawkins of Vienna, Georgia, Deacon Robert (Jacqueline) Hawkins, Ms. Frankie Cross and Mrs. Annie Griffin of Americus, Georgia, Mr. Leon Hawkins of Unadilla, Georgia, and Mr. Izelie (Triplolitania) Hawkins of Vienna, Georgia; a beloved aunt, Mrs. Bertha Mae Floyd of Americus, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many sorrowing friends.
