United States Army Veteran, Mr. Walter James Hollis of 165 Lexington Circle, Americus, Georgia, died Monday, November 10, 2025, at the Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the sanctuary of St. John AME Church in Plains, Georgia.  The burial, with military honors, will follow at the Andersonville National Cemetery in Andersonville, Georgia.

Walter James Hollis was born on December 9, 1948, in Americus, Georgia. The beloved son of Charlie and Agnes Hollis, Walter grew up in a nurturing family environment that instilled many positive values in his life.

Walter received his education through the Sumter County public school system, culminating in his graduation from Plains High School in Plains, Georgia. His formative years in Plains laid the foundation for a life characterized by service to others and a love for learning.

His love for service and learning was further enhanced by his commitment to serve his country in the United States Army.  Earning numerous commendations, he served with honor and distinction.

Walter was a member of the Saint John AME Church in Plains, Georgia, where he found spiritual nourishment and community. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, further demonstrating his commitment to fraternity and service.

In his personal life, Walter found joy in simple pleasures. He was an avid fisherman, delighting in the tranquility and challenge of the sport. He loved entertaining his  family, filling their lives with laughter and warmth. Music was another passion, providing a soundtrack to his life's journey and bringing him immense joy.

On Monday, November 10, 2025, Walter James Hollis passed away at the Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in his birthplace of Americus, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Agnes Hollis, his son, Farrell Hollis, and his brother, Eugene Hollis.

Walter leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with those who survive him: his devoted wife, Ramona L. Hollis of Americus, Georgia; his children, James Earl White (Latoya) of Athens, Georgia, Travin Damon Hollis, Michael Paul Ellis, and Rodrik Ellis, all of Americus, Georgia, his grandchildren: Tekeya Hollis, Deunta Darden, Cameron Hollis, Jeremy White, Tedarius Darden, Mikala Ellis, Mikiya Ellis, and Shakira Appling; his great-grandchildren, Taylor Darden, Chrisy Darden, Davieon Appling, and Dimitriuan Colson; his sister, Jacqueline H. Slappey of Plains, Georgia; his brothers, Owen T. Hollis (Lottie) of Columbus,  Georgia, Carlton Hollis (Debra) of Albany, Georgia, and LTC Blake E. Hollis, Retired (Deborah) of McDonough, Georgia; his aunt and uncle, Elder Johnnie Raven and Gloria Walker of  Americus, Georgia; his sisters-in-law, Cynthia Allen (Jerry) and Monique Hostetier (Lawrence), both of Americus, Georgia; his brother-in-law, Eric Laramore (Danni) of Lithonia, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including Quintavion Pitts of Warner Robins, Georgia, Antonia Thomas, and Antonio Thomas, both of Atlanta, Georgia.
