Obituary

United States Air Force Mr. Wallace N. Lewis of 611 East 26th Avenue, Cordele, Georgia died Monday, July 3, 2023 at Summer's Landing Assisted Living in Warner Robins, Georgia.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at 11:00 AM in the sanctuary of the Greater Gum Creek Baptist Church in Cordele, Georgia.  The burial, with military honors, will follow at the Bethel Cemetery (Veteran's Section) in Cordele, Georgia.

On May 27, 1945 the union of James and Verlee Lewis  of Crisp County, Georgia, was blessed with a son.  They named him Wallace Nelson Lewis.

Educated in the public school system of Crisp County, he was a proud graduate of the A. S. Clark High School.  Upon the completion of high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force.  Wallace proudly served his country with honor and distinction.  He completed his enlistment       obligation and earned an Honorable discharge.

He accepted Christ as his personal Savior and united with the Gum Creek Baptist Church.

Wallace was employed by General Motors.  He retired after over 30 years of service to the company.

He was also a member of the American Legion Post #542.

On Monday, July 3, 2023 he was set free from the cares of  this life.  His parents, James and Verlee Lewis along with his siblings:   Mary Haugabrook, Willie Lewis, J. W. Lewis, Mildred Young, and Sammy J. Lewis, each precede him in death.

His life will forever be cherished by his loving and devoted family:  his wife, Mary A. Lewis; his son, Langston Lewis of Columbus, Georgia; his sisters, Marie Hicks and Jeanette (Roger) Jones of Marietta, Georgia, and Josephine Booker of Brooklyn, New York; his brothers, Waymon (Veronica) Lewis of  Brooklyn, New York, and Joseph (Delta) Lewis of Decatur, Georgia; his sisters-in-law, Rosie (Jimmy) Richard and Dorothy (Howard) Mabry of Ellerslie, Georgia, Jocelyn Lewis and Doris Lewis of Cordele, Georgia; his brothers-in-law, Olive (Connie) McGhee of Fayetteville, Georgia and Johnny (Corine) McGhee of Shreveport, Louisiana;  a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, to include Ruth Martin of Cordele, Georgia.
