Obituary

Mr. Tommy C. Mathis of 713 East 27th Avenue, Cordele, Georgia, died Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at the Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025, at 12:00 Noon in the sanctuary of the Greater Morris Tabernacle Baptist Church in Cordele, Georgia.  The burial will follow at the Bethel Cemetery in Cordele, Georgia.

Mr. Tommy Mathis was born April 26, 1951, to the late Mr. John William Mathis, Sr., and the late Mrs. Vieloney Lawrence Mathis.  He was born in Dooly County, Georgia, and was affectionately known as "Coote" to his family and friends.

Tommy received his education from Lebanner Baptist Church School and Vienna Industrial School.  He moved to West Palm Beach, Florida, where he worked as a Heavy Machinery Operator and a gardener.  Tommy loved his family, loved his boxing, and all of his western movies.  He also loved his red lawn mower and his little black wagon.

On Wednesday, December 10, 2025, our beloved   Tommy "Coote" traded the cares of his life for a new life free of pain and suffering.  Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Mr. Curtis Mathis, Mr. Willie James McClendon, Mr. Eddie Mathis, Mr. Robert Mathis, Mr. Ernest Mathis, Mr. Michael Mathis, and Mr. Ronnie Mathis.

He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted  sister, Mrs. Juanita Tolbert of Cordele, Georgia; two   sisters-in-law, Mrs. Cynthia Mathis of West Palm Beach, Florida and Mrs. Shirley Mathis of Lilly, Georgia; a special niece, Ms. Kashari Warren; four special nephews, Mr. Johnny James Tolbert, Jr., Mr. Marcus Tolbert, Sr., Mr. Reggie Lively, Sr., Mr. Keishon Warren, and Mr. Brycen Warren; a host of nieces, nephews, many cousins, other relatives and many sorrowing friends, to include, a special friend, Mr.  Arthur Gunter.
