United States Army SSG Thomas William McRae, Jr. (Ret) of 761 North Coney Road, Cordele, Georgia died Monday, January 8, 2023 at his residence.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of the J. W. Williams Funeral Home in Cordele, Georgia. The burial will follow at the Gum Creek Church Cemetery in Cordele, Georgia.
Everyone entering the funeral home for visitations or services is required to wear a mask and to practice social distancing. A mask must be worn throughout the stay. You must supply your own mask.
Thomas William McRae, Jr. was born August 16, 1958 in Cordele, Crisp County, Georgia. Thomas was born to the late Thomas W. McRae, Sr. and the late Johnnie E. McRae.
He was a 1976 graduate of Fender High School. He was a 1991 graduate of City College of Chicago.
A true believer in the word of God, Thomas was a member of the Vienna Church of Christ in Vienna, Georgia. He enjoyed fellowshipping and learning more about the word of God.
In May, 1980, Thomas began his Army military career. For 20 years he served his country with honor and distinction. During his years of service he was awarded many medals and commendations, to include: The Meritorious Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal, and The Army Commendation Medal. He retired from the United States Army in May, 2000.
On Monday, January 8, 2024, Thomas peacefully transitioned from this life to life eternal.
Cherished memories of his life will forever live in the hearts of his loving and devoted daughters, Shevada (Montavious) McRae of Austell, Georgia, Courtney (Jon) Green of Tampa, Florida, Erika McRae of Cambridge, Cambridgeshire England, Asanti McRae of Norfolk, Virginia; eight beloved grandchildren, Takiyah Johnson Yokosuka, Japan, Micah McRae and Darriah White of Austell, Georgia, Brantley (Ehlana) White and Kersalyn Russell of Atlanta, Georgia, Schuylar Houser of San Antonio, Texas, Cahlen McRae of Tampa, Florida, and Aubrey Byrom of Cordele, Georgia; one great grandchild, Milan Gianni Russell; a loving sister, Ja'nice McRae of Augusta, Georgia; his beloved aunts, Rose Merry (James) Brock of Decatur, Georgia and Marion Street of Cordele, Georgia; a host of cousins, to include, Kameron Cunningham of Sumter South Carolina and Kimberly Street of Cordele, Georgia; a host of other relatives and friends, to include his Nutrien Ag Solutions family of Pinehurst, Georgia.
