Mrs. Thelma Laverne Thomas Battle of 405 West 20th Avenue, Cordele, Georgia died Monday, March 28, 2022 at the Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele, Georgia.
The graveside funeral service will be held Sunday, April 3, 2022 at 12:00 Noon at the Fort Early Church Cemetery in Warwick, Georgia. Everyone in attendance is asked to please wear a mask and to practice social distancing.
With grateful hearts, the late Mr. Jessie James Thomas and the late Mrs. Della Mae Lewis Thomas, welcomed a daughter on January 17, 1964. They lovingly named her Thelma Laverne.
Born in Worth County, Georgia, she received her education from the public school system. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and served faithfully as a member of the Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Warwick, Georgia. At Mount Moriah, she was a dedicated Usher and member of the Kitchen Committee. She was also the church's custodian.
Thelma was a member of the Worth County Branch of the NAACP, Sylvester, Georgia.
An excellent cook, she was employed by BJ's Diner of Cordele, Georgia. Additionally, she was employed by the City of Warwick as a Custodian.
On Monday, March 28, 2022, our beloved journeyed to a place of perfect peace and rest. Along with her parents, her beloved husband, Mr. Woodrow Battle and her brother, Mr. Lee Andrew Thomas, each precede her in death.
Many wonderful memories are left to her loving and devoted children, Mr. Darren (Makeda) Battle and Ms. Sharron (Jeffrey) Battle both of Cordele, Georgia, Mr. William (Melisa) Battle of Fort Valley, Georgia, Ms. Akira Chaniel of Cordele, Georgia, Mr. Terrance Battle of Alabama, Ms. Alicia Battle of Panama, Florida, Mr. Kyron Battle and Mr. Armond Chaniel (Jakeisha) both of Cordele, Georgia, and Mr. Tekian Tubbs of Warwick, Georgia; 11 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; her loving sisters, Ms. Velma Thomas, Ms. Willie Mae Thomas, Mrs. Gwendolyn Mitchell (Charles), and Mrs. Gertrude Singleton all of Warwick, Georgia, Ms. Beatrice Thomas of Cordele, Georgia, and Mayor Juanita Kinchen of Warwick, Georgia; her beloved brothers, Mr. Williams Thomas (Lydia) of California, Mr. Leon Thomas and Mr. Spencer Battle both of Cordele, Georgia; her uncle, Deacon Walter James Vinson (Erica) of Warwick, Georgia; her nieces and nephews, to include, Mrs. Angie Battle Curry (Michael) of Oakfield, Georgia, Mrs. Vontressa White (Adrian) and Ms. De'Aundra Smith both of Cordele, Georgia, and Mr. Micah Turner of Oakfield, Georgia; her goddaughter, Mrs. Tracie Peterson of Vienna, Georgia; a host of cousins, other relatives and many sorrowing friends, to include Mrs. Bobbie Jean Ezell and the BJ Diner's Staff of Cordele, Georgia.
