United States Army Veteran, Mr. Stanley Barner died on March 30, 2024 in Portsmouth, Virginia.

The graveside memorial service will be Sunday, March 30, 2025, at 12:00 Noon at the Bethel Cemetery in Cordele, Georgia.

On Saturday, March 30, 2024, Stanley Barner, Sr., fondly known as "Stan" transitioned from this world at the age of sixty-three years old after a battle with cancer.  He was the second oldest of four children born to the late Elsie Johnson-Barner and George Barner. As a child, he attended church regularly and was baptized. A native of Cordele, GA, he graduated from Crisp County High School in 1978 in Cordele, GA.

He attended Fort Valley State University, located in Fort Valley, GA and upon leaving college he joined the United States Army where he served fifteen years in places such as Korea, Fort Meade, MD, Stuttgart West, Germany, the Pentagon - Office of the Secretary of Defense, Georgetown University ROTC Department, and Fort Jackson, SC.  With these top-notch assignments and holding the highest security clearance allowed- Top Secret (Sensitive Compartmented), he quickly excelled to the rank of Sergeant First Class.

He worked adjudicating security clearances at Fort Meade, MD where he met Wanda Hazel at the Headquarters administrative building, and on February 28, 1985, they were married.  Out of that marriage, three sons were born-Stanley, Jr., Nigel, and Tory. Stan was the one who added the family's pets – Tug the pit-bull, and then Tyson the "pure-bred" boxer.  On many occasions, he coached the children's flag football teams, taught them to tie their shoes, helped with math homework, entertained nieces, nephews, and cousins who visited during the summer, and became the family's head barbecue chef.

Upon reuniting with the family in Portsmouth, VA in 2000, he joined and attended Fellowship United Church of Christ in Chesapeake, VA, where he served as an ordained Deacon and as a member of the Men's Choir under Rev. Dr. Dwight Shanklin and Rev. Dr. Lilton Marks, Sr.  He completed Barbering School in Norfolk, VA, and began a career as a barber and part owner of the Newtown Road "Players" barber shop. He then became the owner of the "All American Beauty and Barber" shop in Norfolk, VA before moving to Dallas, TX.

In addition to his parents, Stanley is predeceased by his brother Michael Johnson. He leaves behind his daughter Jacqueline (Drayah) Burnam of Atlanta, GA, four sons, Stanley R. Barner, Jr. (Ashley) of Portsmouth, VA, Dr. Nigel S. Barner (Dylesia) of Aurora, CO, Tory Barner of Portsmouth, VA, and Elijah Roberts of Norfolk, VA;  seven grandchildren, Brianca and Briania Clark (twins), Jayce Barner, Bryce Barner, Braxton Barner, and Bliss and Flame Barner (twins); and one great-grandson, Mason Denver Duncan to cherish his legacy.  He will be sorely missed by his sisters, Renita Barner and Burnelya Barner-Florence, both of Dallas, TX, a special cousin Bobby Barner of Atlanta, GA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, in-laws, and friends.  He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
