Obituary

Ms. Sonia Latron Green of 2001 Turner Street, Cordele, Georgia, died Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at the Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele, Georgia.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 1:00 PM in the sanctuary of the Mount Zion First African Baptist Church in Cordele, Georgia.  The burial will follow at the Bethel Cemetery in Cordele, Georgia.

Sonia Latron Green was born on February 23, 1975, in Cordele,   Georgia, to Gus Alvin Hendley and Minnie Lee Green Sanders. She was a vibrant presence from an early age, participating actively in her community and school activities. Sonia graduated from Crisp County High School in 1995, where she was known for her love of music and sports. During her school years, she played basketball and was an accomplished clarinet player.

Sonia's dedication extended beyond her studies. She was a beloved member of the Mt. Zion First African Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir, bringing joy and inspiration through her musical talents.

Sonia's work history reflects her diverse skills and dedication. She worked as a Remittance Specialist at Bank of America in Atlanta, Georgia. Her career also included roles at Krystals of Cordele, Pilot of Cordele, Gas-N-Go of Cordele, and Quality Trucking Company.

Sonia had a deep love for sports, particularly as a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Georgia Bulldogs. Her passion for basketball remained with her throughout her life. Sonia cherished traveling and spending quality time with her family, especially her adopted children.

Sonia Latron Green passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Wanda Sanders, her grandparents Ida W. Anderson, Eddie Lee Green, Sr., Mattie Pearl Dunn, and Gus Ford, as well as her aunts and uncles, Glenda Dunn, Kelvin Smith, Gregory Smith, Linda Gail Green, and Jennifer Green.

Sonia leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for her family and friends. Her survivors include her goddaughters: Alexis Graham of Kathleen, Georgia and Latecia Williams of Warner Robins, Georgia; her sisters: Shomaneika Sanders, Erica Sanders, and Ilyasha Blackburn, all of Cordele, Georgia; her godsister: Asia Dawson of Cordele, Georgia; her brothers: Jamaca (Valeneecia) Hendley of Centerville, Virginia and Quan Clay of Cordele, Georgia; her godbrother: Ricky Dawson, Jr. of Cordele, Georgia; her aunts and uncles: Mary Henderson, Shirley Faye Green, Mary J. Green, Kermit (Lillian) Green, Benjamin Green, Ricky Anderson, Sr., Steven (Nikki) Green, Eddie Green, Jr., Zobbie Smith, Eddie Steve (Melinda) Williams, Lakeshia Newson, Dementrius (Tasha) Newson all of Cordele, Georgia, Betty Peterson of Hampton, Georgia, Shelley Green of Miami, Florida, Eddie Anthony (Carolyn) Green of Tennessee, Maeretha Smith and Arletha Kynes of Stone Mountain, Georgia, and Audrey Smith of Tallahassee, Florida; her great aunts and great uncles: Lizzie Chambliss, Francis Chambliss, Kimberly Morgan, Ben Morgan, Rosette Morgan, and Geraldine Ray; her nieces and nephews: Jermhius Rogers, Ja'Ailyn Sanders, and Iynesha Blackburn, all of Cordele, Georgia; Takeo Clay of Perry, Georgia; London Hendley and Milan Hendley of Texas; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends, to include her special friends: Regina Harris Dean, Nikita Brown, Yesha Jenkins, Kenya Williams, and Derek Armstrong.
