Obituary

United States Marine Corps Veteran, Mr. Rodney Andre Hillmon of 715 Story Street, Ashburn, Georgia, died Saturday, May 3, 2025 at the Tift Regional Hospital in Tifton, Georgia.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, May 10, 2025 at 3:30 PM in the sanctuary of the Greater St. Luke Baptist Church in Ashburn, Georgia.  The burial, with military honors, will follow at Westview Memorial Gardens in Ashburn, Georgia.

Rodney Andre Hillmon, born on March 13, 1965, in Ashburn, Georgia, passed away on May 3, 2025, at Tift Regional Hospital in Tifton, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, the late Ms. Luecile Hillmon and Tom Whitsett Jr.

Rodney accepted Christ in 1983 and became a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Sibley, Georgia, where he remained an active participant throughout his life. Rodney grew up in Ashburn, Georgia, and graduated from Turner County High School (Class of 1983), where he distinguished himself as a four-year letterman on the football team. His dedication and spirit on and off the field were admired by many.

Following high school, Rodney proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps (Devil Dogs). He completed his basic training at Parris Island, South Carolina, with Platoon 2055, D Company. Rodney excelled as an exceptional helicopter mechanic, showcasing his strong work ethic and technical skills. Rodney was an avid Georgia Bulldogs and Tennessee Titan fan.

Rodney leaves behind his wife, Derenne Hillmon of Ashburn, Georgia; his three loving children, Kavien Hillmon (Phinda) of Grayson, Georgia, Audrey Hillmon of Ashburn, Georgia, and Jasmine High (Jamie) of Tifton, Georgia; his siblings, Angie   Watkins (David) of Denver, Colorado, Maxine Romer (Ron) of Miami, Floridia, Melvin Whitsett (Linda) of Tifton, Georgia, Rachel Whitsett and Tom Whitsett Jr. both of Ashburn, Georgia, Vonda Burkes (Willie) of Albany, Georgia; his uncle, Larry Hillmon of Atlanta, Georgia; three sisters-in-law, Patricia Chatfield, Deborah Windom (Charles), Shereda Jackson, all of Ashburn, Georgia; three brothers-in-law, Arthur Lawson, Jr.(Cassandra), Antonia Lawson (Juanita), Zoronta Lawson, all of Ashburn, Georgia; six grandchildren, Jeremiah, Cortlan, Jaylen, Kavien Jr, Jayme, and Kristian; two special nephews, Keshawn Odoms and Keandre Whitsett Odoms both of Ashburn, Georgia;  two aunts, Mable Hillmon of Atlanta, Georgia, and Inez Hillmon of Ashburn, Georgia; special niece, Keshunda Odoms of Ashburn Georgia; special cousin, Sidney Hillmon; two special friends, Willie Walker, and Sonny Walker Jr. A host of beloved cousins and special friends. Rodney's legacy of service, love, and commitment to his family will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
