Dr. Queen Herring Brown of 174 Swann Drive, Cordele, Georgia died Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at her residence.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 10:00 AM in the sanctuary of the Allen Temple A. M. E. Church in Cordele, Georgia.  The burial will follow at the Sunnyside Cemetery in Cordele, Georgia.

On Saturday, March 12, 1955, the union of Reverend Elijah Herring, Sr. and Mrs. Cordelia K. Herring, lovingly welcomed a beautiful daughter. Born in Sumter County, Georgia, she was named Queen Loural Herring.

The importance of education was planted in her mind as a child growing up in the Sumter and Crisp County School Systems.  She proudly earned her high school diploma in 1973 from Crisp County High School.  Upon the completion of high school, she continued what would be a great love and true example of academic excellence.

She earned both her Bachelor's and Master's degree from Georgia Southwestern State University.  With a steadfast determination, she earned her Specialist degree from Albany State University and went on to complete the course of study to earn her Doctorate degree from Georgia Southern University.

For over 45 years, Dr. Brown devoted her life to the profession of teaching and instilling in the minds of her students the value of education.  For 22 years she taught at Crisp County High School.  She would go on to become a well respected educator at Albany State University.  Her journey first as a student would be completed after 20 years of teaching at her beloved Georgia Southwestern State University.

Queen loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Reared in a home filled with love and Christ, she carried those childhood teachings with her every step of the way.  As a faithful member of Allen Temple African Methodist Episcopal Church, she never quavered in her commitment to serve the Lord faithfully.  She served in many capacities of the church and was also a member of the  African Methodist Eastern District Lay.

Along with her commitment to the church, she believed in community involvement.  Over the years she proudly devoted her time and her knowledge as a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated, Georgia State NAACP Executive Board, Crisp County NAACP, Albany Jaycees, former Director of the Boy Scouts of America, and Retired Educators.

The journey came to a peaceful end on Tuesday, March 26, 2024.  Her parents, Reverend Elijah & Mrs. Cordelia Herring, her brothers, Elijah Herring, Jr. and Robert Williams, and her son, Marcus K. McGhee, each preceded her in death.

The beauty of her life and all she shared will be cherished by her husband, Membrish Brown, Sr. of Cordele, Georgia; her children, Michelle R. Brown of Avondale, Florida, Membrish Brown, Jr. of Cordele, Georgia, Cassandra Arnold of Atlanta, Georgia, Myshonda Brown Gunn of Tampa, Florida, Venier Troupe of Las Vegas, Nevada, Chimere Tasha Lucas and Sonya Danielly of Atlanta, Georgia; 19 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; her sisters, Morene Monticure of Madison, Wisconsin and Dr. Marva Jean Herring of Washington, DC; her brothers, Vontor Lee Herring of Cordele, Georgia, Henry (Julia) Herring of Toledo, Ohio and Willie (Jerri) Wiggins of Madison, Wisconsin; her niece, Marva C. Herring Clark of Miami, Florida; her nephews, Dr. Marshone E. Herring Clark of Bowie, Maryland, Horace G. Herring Clark of Syracuse, New York, and Dennis & Willie of Madison, Wisconsin; three sisters-in-law; eight brothers-in-law; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, to include, Shirley Ross-Trimble of Savannah, Georgia, Linda G. Rollins and Alice Faye Green of Cordele, Georgia.
