Mrs. Eva Lewis Carter of 500 Bessie Avenue, Rochelle, Georgia, died Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele, Georgia.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Piney Grove Cemetery in Rochelle, Georgia.

Eva Lewis Carter, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, transitioned peacefully on July 22, 2026. Born on October 3, 1968, in Wilcox County, Georgia, she was the cherished daughter of the late James Lewis, Sr. and Callie Mae Manning Lewis.

Eva was educated in the Wilcox County School System and later demonstrated her perseverance by earning her GED. Raised with a deep sense of faith and family, she treasured worshiping alongside her Jehovah’s Witness sister and attending services at the Kingdom Hall.

Known for being remarkably diligent with her hands, Eva had a creative spirit and a passion for life. She found great joy in drawing, crafting, tending to her garden, and raising her chickens and ducks. Above all, Eva cherished spending quality time with her family and friends. Her bright humor was infectious—she loved cracking jokes, bringing light into every room, and making everyone around her laugh. She also deeply loved and cherished every moment spent with her husband.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Lewis, Sr. and Callie Mae Manning Carter; her beloved daughter, Keira Lewis; her sisters, Annie Pearl Ferguson and Marie Rawls; her brothers, Willie Lee Moore and Henry Lewis; and her best friend, Donna "Ree" Edwards.

Eva’s beautiful life and precious memories will forever be cherished by her husband, Frederick Carter, Sr. of Rochelle, Georgia; her children: Ryan Lewis, Sr. (Katiqua) of Fitzgerald, Georgia, Diamond McGriff (Justin) of Hawkinsville, Georgia, Joseph Benjamin of Rochelle, Georgia, Shandria Benjamin of Rochelle, Georgia, and Jordan Benjamin of Rochelle, Georgia; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; her sisters, Annie Ree Pridgen (Harry) of Rochelle, Georgia, Mary Daniels of Rochelle, Georgia, Rose Pepper (Charles) of Fitzgerald, Georgia, Margaret West of Alaska, and Daisy Walker of Rochelle, Georgia; her brothers, James Lewis, Jr. of Rochelle, Georgia and Johnny Lewis of Iowa; a brother-in-law, Thomas Ferguson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and many sorrowing friends.
