Mr. Jesse James Bateman of 65 Masonic Street, Americus, Georgia, died Thursday, July 23, 2026, at his residence.

The funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at 3:00 PM in the sanctuary of The Restoration Church in Americus, Georgia. The burial will follow at the Eastview Cemetery in Americus, Georgia.

Jesse James Bateman, affectionately known to all as "Moo Joe," completed his earthly journey on July 23, 2026. Born on December 2, 1945, in Sumter County, Georgia, Jesse was the cherished son of Thomas Perry and Annie L. Bateman Cobb. He attended Northeast Elementary School through the eighth grade and was a faithful member of New St. Paul Baptist Church.

Moo Joe embraced the simple and meaningful things in life. He took great pleasure in farming, fishing, collecting scrap metal, trying his luck with the lottery, and, above all, spending cherished time with his family.

Jesse was reunited in eternal rest with his son, Marcus Bateman; his parents, Thomas Perry and Annie L. Bateman Cobb; his siblings: Dorothy Everett, Annie Lou Hayward, and Ray Charles Cobb.

His memory will forever be held dear in the hearts of his beloved wife, Willie Pearl Bateman of Americus, Georgia; his children: Arthur Mable (Elizabeth) of Americus, Georgia, Eddie Mable (Tyshi) of Valdosta, Georgia, Betty Foster of Americus, Georgia, and Bernetter Mable of Americus, Georgia; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Mildred Bateman Burton of Americus, Georgia, Rosa Mae Wooden of Tampa, Florida, Rebecca Johnson (Charles) of Riverview, Florida, and Barbara Ann Cobb of Tampa, Florida; his brothers, Bennie W. Cobb of Tampa, Florida, Morrell Cobb (Jackie) of Tampa, Florida, and Willie Thomas Cobb (Debra) of Tampa, Florida; his aunt, Daisy Bateman of Americus, Georgia; his in-laws, Patricia (David) Bell, Johnnie Lyles, Johnny (Patricia) Mable, and Georgia Johnson all of Americus, Georgia, Dorothy (James) Hamilton of Warner Robins, Georgia, and Evelyn (Jimmie) Asberry of Ellaville, Georgia; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended relatives, and sorrowing friends, including special friends Trissa Mable, Natasha Mable, Eddie James Bell, Lashon Bateman, Edna Bateman, Willie James Barker, Allen Smith, Jr., and Dorothy Waters all of Americus, Georgia.
