Mother Martha Simpson West of 200 St. Charles Place, Vienna, Georgia died Sunday, May 26, 2024 at the Crisp Regional Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Cordele, Georgia.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, June 8, 2024 at 10:00 AM in the sanctuary of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Vienna, Georgia. The burial will follow at the Vienna City Cemetery in Vienna, Georgia.
Martha S. West, a beloved matriarch and pillar of the Vienna, Georgia community, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2024, at the age of 96. Born on October 26, 1927, in Macon, Georgia, to Stella Williams and Scrap Simpson. Martha was a beacon of light and love throughout her life.
Martha spent her formative years in Macon before moving to Vienna, where she would live out the rest of her days. There, she built a beautiful life with her late husband, Charlie West, and their four children: Betty, Mary, Martha, and Charlie Jr. Martha was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, whose selflessness and devotion to her family knew no bounds. She was affectionately known as Mother West, a testament to the warmth and guidance she provided not just to her family, but to everyone who knew her.
Martha was a woman of many talents—her hands were rarely still, whether she was cooking her renowned family recipes, sewing a new dress, or reeling in a catch during her beloved fishing trips. Above all, her life was a living example of her faith. She was a devout worshiper who praised God every day and used every opportunity to share her wisdom and kindness with others.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that will forever be cherished by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the many lives she touched. Martha's memory will continue to inspire those who knew her to live a life of purpose and faith. Her kind spirit and warm heart touched everyone she met, leaving a lasting impact that will be dearly missed.
She leaves many wonderful memories to her loving and caring family, her son, Charlie West, Jr. of Hyattsville, Maryland; her grandchildren, Patrice Davis, Ebony Davis, Javon Hayes, and Arlisia Taylor; her great grandchildren, DeNisha Davis, Kayla Davis, Keith Harris, Mikael Jones, Xhkyre Hayes, Jayla Hayes, Ziyreunna Taylor, Tailor Jones, Trinity Jones, Royalty Taylor, and Heaven Taylor; other relatives and friends.
Her granddaughters, Marie West and Monica West also precede her in death.
