Mother Myrtis Dawson of 1006 South 5th Street, Cordele, Georgia, died Sunday, July 12, 2026, at her residence.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of the J. W. Williams Funeral Home in Cordele, Georgia. The burial will follow at the Vienna City Cemetery in Vienna, Georgia.
Everyone entering the funeral home for visitations or services is required to wear a mask and maintain social distancing. A mask must be worn throughout the stay. You must supply your own mask.
Mother Myrtis Dawson, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and matriarch, was born on August 29, 1932, in Vienna, Georgia. Daughter of Oliver Dawson and Leola Battle Dawson, she was raised and educated in the public schools of Dooly County, Georgia.
From a young age, Myrtis was a devoted member of Piney Grove Baptist Church, where she remained an active participant throughout her life. Her faith was an integral part of her identity and provided her with strength and guidance.
In 1946, Myrtis married W. C. Dawson, and together they built a life filled with love and laughter until his passing in November 1999. Their union was blessed with 12 children—eight girls and four boys—who became the center of her world.
Myrtis Dawson was a woman who cherished the simple joys of life. She had a passion for sewing, fishing, and spending quality time with her family. Her love for crossword puzzles and shopping added to her vibrant personality. An extraordinary cook and baker, she was known for her delicious meals that brought her family together.
Her life was a testament to the beauty of simplicity, the strength of family bonds, and the enduring power of love. Her spirit will forever be remembered and cherished by all who knew her.
Mother Myrtis Dawson passed away on July 12, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She was preceded in death by her husband, W. C. Dawson; her parents, Oliver and Leola Dawson; her sons, Larry C. Dawson and Jerome Dawson; and her siblings, Willie Mae Youngblood, Elizabeth Jones, J. C. Dawson, Willie Dawson, L. W. Dawson, Bubba Dawson, and Jack Dawson.
Her memory lives on through her loving and devoted children: Irma Jean Dawson of College Park, Georgia, Edna Jean Dawson of Cordele, Georgia, Eddie L. Dawson of Cordele, Georgia, Betty Walker of Cordele, Georgia, Angierome Bennett (Henry) of Cordele, Georgia, Inez Evans (Fred) of Cordele, Georgia M. C. Dawson (Shirley) of Dallas, Georgia, Dianne Dawson of Cordele, Georgia, Lisa Alford (Derodney) of Lithia Springs, Georgia, and Felicia Adams (Roderick) of Locust Grove, Georgia; her beloved and caring grandchildren, Chandra Green, Larabia Dawson, Latricia Gibbs, Fonta Dawson, Carome Clark, Justin Walker, Tyrongela Finely, April Dawson, Jerome Dawson, Jr., Antorinia Dawson, Quanneisha Perry, Montay Evans, La'Kia Adams, Alexsis Finley, Akia Adams, Jaela Bennett, DeRodney Alford, Jr., Darius Alford, and Monica Dawson; 21 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many sorrowing friends.
