Mother Dewell Easter Mae Byrom of 316 Oak Avenue, Cordele, Georgia died Friday, January 28, 2022 at the Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele, Georgia.

The funeral service will be held Friday, February 4, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the J. W.  Williams Funeral Home Porte Cochere in Cordele, Georgia.  The burial will follow at the Spring Hill Church Cemetery in Cordele, Georgia.  Everyone in attendance is asked to please wear a mask and to practice social distancing.

On Friday, January 28, 2022, our beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother of five generations and mentor to many, retired from this world to begin her new journey in the Kingdom of God.

Her earthly journey began on April 25, 1924 in Drayton, GA when she was born to Ms. Rosie Paul and Mr. Ivory Sheffield.  As a child, she received her early years of education in Vienna, GA.  Later, she moved to Cordele where she met and married her husband, Ceaser Byrom, Sr.  Together, they reared eleven (11) children.  For several years, she was a member of Morgan Grove Baptist in Dooly County, then Macedonia Baptist Church in Drayton. Eventually, she and her family joined Spring Hill Baptist Church in Cordele where she served faithfully for more than 70 years. As a member of Spring Hill, Mother Byrom served many roles including the Missionary Board, the Senior choir and as a Deaconess.  In 2011, she became Church Mother, where she served faithfully until her death.

During her lifetime, she was a multi-tasker and wore many hats to help provide for her family while also being employed for several years as a cook and caring for others. She served as an Eastern Star for many years in the local chapter.  However, her greatest joy was being a homemaker. By providing for such a large family, she was an excellent cook and baker.  She left her children a legacy of preparing large meals and sharing with others.  She was a top-notched seamstress and quilter who took great joy in doing so.  She could design, sew, and pattern anything.  One of her most proudest creations was sewing choir robes for the Spring Hill choir and creating beautiful clothes for her children, grandchildren and the public.  She even made baptismal robes for a sister church. She would readily make adjustments to clothes for anyone in need of alterations.  Then she would save pieces of unused cloths and turn them into beautiful quilts which have been enjoyed and cherished by everyone.  After raising her own family, she continued to provide care for generations of grandchildren, godchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends until her health began to falter several months ago.  Until recently, she also continued her business of selling sodas and popsicles. She also took great pride in her flowers and took much satisfaction in growing beautiful plants.  She is so fondly remembered for her nurturing, love and advice she gave to all of us.  She was known as the "Neighborhood Watch" lady because she would sit on her porch and could tell you who came, went and what was happening at the corner of Oak Ave and Tenth Street.  Through it all, she remained humble and obedient to the word of God.  You are "forever in our hearts".

She is preceded in death by her husband and parents, her sisters, Bernice Sheffield, Essie Mae Sheffield and Nora Walker.  Her grandsons, Earl Walker and Travis Shivers also precede her in death.

Her beautiful and cherished memories are left to her loving and devoted children, Lillie Mathis, Nellie (Deacon Willie B.) Shivers, Deacon Willie James (Willie Mae) Byrom, Deacon Eddie (Louise) Byrom, all of Cordele, GA, Ceaser (Delois) Byrom, Jr. of Titusville, FL, Ruth Felton of Cordele, GA, Virginia (Wayne Allen) Byrom of Atlanta, GA, Elizabeth (Deacon Willie Frank) Brown of Cordele, GA, Joann (Steward Nelson) Barrett of Ellenwood, GA, Linda (Deacon Ray) Rollins of Cordele, GA and Bernard (Jalynne) Byrom of Fort Mitchell, AL; sister, Nancy Bell of Cleveland, OH; one brother, Lonnie (Hattie) Dennard of Bear, DE; 50 grandchildren, to include a devoted granddaughter and caretaker, Easter Patrick; 109 great grandchildren, 93 great, great   grandchildren; five great, great, great grandchildren; two devoted nephews, John Bell of Daytona Beach, FL and Bill Joe Bell of Prattville, AL; devoted neighbors and friends, Fred and Inez Evans, Thelma Porter and Gladys Foster all of Cordele, GA; a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and sorrowing friends.
