Obituary

Mother Dorothy Lee Tolbert of 2239 US Highway 41, South, Cordele, Georgia died Friday, August 25, 2023 at the Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele, Georgia.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, September 2, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the Crisp County Middle School Auditorium in Cordele, Georgia.  The burial will follow at the Bethel Cemetery in Cordele, Georgia.

On April 13, 1936, in Dooly County, Georgia, the union of the late Mr. Willie James West and Mrs. Louisa Harrell West welcomed the birth of a daughter.  A gift from God, she was named, Dorothy, which means, "Gift of God!"

She received her education from the St. Paul Church School.

Mother Tolbert accepted Jesus Christ as Lord of her life at the St. Paul Baptist Church where she served faithfully over the years.  Along with serving as Mother of the Church, she was a Deaconess and the church's treasurer.  Along with her love for St. Paul, she was an "honorary" member of the Greater Morris Tabernacle Baptist Church.  Giving the Lord praise for his many blessings was always first and foremost in her life.

A loving wife and mother, her life was committed to taking care of others.  Whether cooking, cleaning or sewing, she enjoyed doing what she could for her family.   She also loved taking care of her dog, "Oree."

While it is true that she will forever be missed, we are grateful for the blessing of having her in our lives.  We will forever miss her  saying, "Ummhumm!"

On Friday, August 25, 2023, her life's journey came to a peaceful end.  Her beloved husband, Deacon Freeman Tolbert, Jr., preceded her in death on March 10, 2020.  She is also preceded in death by her children, Mrs. Ethelene Harvey and Mr. Jeffery Tolbert; her siblings, Mrs. Louise Watts, Mr. Thomas West, Sr., Mr. Robert Dawson and Mr. Johnny Dawson.

Memories will live in the hearts of her loving and devoted children, Reverend Eddie J. Tolbert of Fort. Valley, Georgia, Mr. Freeman (LaKentha) Tolbert, III, Mr. Richard (Glendoria) Tolbert, Mrs. Eloise (John) Stubbs, Mr. Kenneth Tolbert, Mr. Vernon Tolbert of Cordele, Georgia, Mr. Jerome (Shree) Tolbert of Fort Valley, Georgia, Ms. Sharon Tolbert and Commissioner Larry (Stephanie) Felton of Cordele, Georgia; 60+ grandchildren; 80+ great grandchildren; 17+ great, great grandchildren; her loving sisters, Mrs. Claudia Waters and Mrs. Kathleen Tolbert of Cordele, Georgia; her caring brothers, Deacon James West, Sr. and Mr. Ollie Dawson of Cordele, Georgia; a son-in-law, Mr. Robert Harvey of Cordele, Georgia; her sisters-in-law, Mrs. Jimmiephine Sorrye of Jacksonville, Florida and Mother Theron Jones of Cordele, Georgia; a brother-in-law, Reverend Jesse Watts of Desota, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, other relatives and many sorrowing friends, to include her pastor and family friend, Reverend Plezy Nelson of Americus, Georgia and family friend, Reverend Charles Perry, Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia.
