Mother Annie Lee Morgan Askew of 2627 Elko Road, Elko, Georgia, died Saturday, April 5, 2025, at The Lodge in Warner Robins, Georgia.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 4:30 PM in the sanctuary of the Green Grove Baptist Church in Elko, Georgia.  The burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery.

Mother Annie Lee Morgan Askew, a beacon of unwavering faith and spiritual strength, was born on April 12, 1932, in Macon County, Georgia, to her beloved parents, John Morgan and Mary Atkinson. Although her formal education concluded after the 7th grade, she possessed profound wisdom that guided her life and the lives of countless others.

As a devoted member of the Green Grove Baptist Church in Elko, Georgia, Mother Annie served her church with a steadfast dedication that inspired all who knew her. She held various roles, including Choir President, Deaconess, and Custodian of the Church, and was revered as the Mother of the Church. Her commitment extended beyond the church walls through her participation in a weekly women's Bible study group, where she and her fellow members found strength and encouragement in their shared faith.

Annie was a true artist in the kitchen, finding joy in creating delicious meals and sharing them with family and friends.  She had a special knack for baking homemade pies, biscuits, and other wholesome dishes. Sunday dinner was not complete without her delicious chicken dressing, cornbread, or macaroni & cheese.

Affectionately known as "Bertha Lee" by some of her closest friends, Annie enjoyed hosting various social gatherings. Her warm hospitality was unmatched.  Annie also found great joy in gardening, singing, listening to music, watching television, and driving around her local community - slightly over the speed limit.  Her love of life was infectious, bringing joy wherever she went.  A life well lived. Annie will always be remembered for the many lives she touched, the lessons she taught, and the kindness she shared.

She was the cherished wife of the late Deacon Charlie Bee Askew, Sr. Together, they raised ten children and nurtured her godson, Sonny Adkinson, with love and care. Her family was her pride and joy, and she instilled in them the values of faith, love, and resilience.

On Saturday, April 5, 2025, just shy of her 93rd birthday, Mother Annie peacefully transitioned to her eternal rest. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, son Charlie Bee Askew, Jr., brother Willie Morgan, sister Pee Wee Whitefield, and grandparents John Henry & Azzie Minor.

Mother Annie Lee Morgan Askew's life was a testament to the power of faith and the strength of community. Her memory will continue to inspire and uplift those fortunate enough to have known her. She was a guiding light, a devoted servant, and a loving matriarch whose legacy will forever be cherished in the hearts of her family and community.

Mother Annie leaves behind a rich legacy cherished by her children: Eddie James (Vivian) Askew of Cordele, Georgia, Otis (Jean) Askew of Unadilla, Georgia,   Dewey (Peggie) Askew and James (Barbara) Askew of Elko, Georgia, Shirley Keen of Kathleen, Georgia, Sharion Green of Warner Robins, Georgia, Fredrick (Anna) Askew of Byron, Georgia, Reverend Steve (Louise) Askew of Reynolds, Georgia and Wendy (Kirk) Stembridge of Byron, Georgia; her godson, Sonny Adkinson of Orlando, Florida; daughter-in-law, Aletha Askew of Cordele, Georgia; 50+ grandchildren, 30+ great grandchildren, 15+ great-great grandchildren;  her sister, Naomi Stubbs of Cordele, Georgia; a brother-in-law, James Askew, Sr. of Perry, Georgia; her sisters-in-law, Mary Askew of Perry, Georgia and Alice Askew of Warner Robins, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends, to include Willie C. Kinchen of Elko, Georgia.
