Mother Fannie Harris Butler of 205 Burton Circle, Americus, Georgia died Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia.
The funeral service will be held Monday, October 9, 2023 at 12:00 Noon in the sanctuary of the Friendship Baptist Church in Americus, Georgia. The burial will follow at Staley Memorial Garden in Americus, Georgia.
Mrs. Fannie Lee Harris Butler was born in Sumter County, Georgia, on June 28, 1936, to the parentage of the late Mr. Perry Alfred Harris and Mrs. Ruby Lee Wooden Harris. She was the third child and first daughter; she took pride in taking care of her younger siblings.
Fannie is preceded in death by a son, Mr. John A. Butler; one grandson, Mr. Eddie (EJ) Davis, Jr.; one son-in-law, Mr. Thomas F. Jones, Jr.; six brothers, Mr. Oliver Harris, Mr. Alfred Harris, Mr. William Harris, Mr. McKinley Harris, Mr. John Harris, Mr. Fred Harris, and one sister, Mrs. Nancy Harris Hall.
Being raised and nurtured in a Christian home, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. In her life, she was a member of several churches, the last one being the Welcome Baptist Church, where she served as Mother of the Church.
She was educated in the local school system where she attended Welcome School and Staley High School. She was a beautician and a homemaker. Fannie loved to cook and many family members and friends enjoyed her great meals.
On Wednesday, October 4, 2023, Fannie transitioned to her eternal home, leaving the cares of this world behind.
Her legacy of love and care will forever be cherished by her children, Ms. Frances Harris Reddick, Ms. Beverly Butler Jones, Mr. Christopher M. Butler, Mrs. Cynthia Butler (Eddie) Davis and Mrs. Cassandra Butler (Moses) Roberts all of Americus, Georgia; 11 grandchildren, Qua'wanna (Tyrone) Bannarbie, Yeavis (Carlton) Knight, Chloe (Eddie) Jackson, Jarvis (Samantha) Jones, Le'andra Jones, Crystal (Tommie) Thomas, Chelby Davis, Chaffin Rogers (Sa'rea) Roberts, Javin Butler Roberts, Ian Roberts, and Joshua Clark; 13 great grandchildren; two brothers, Reverend Norris (Pamela) Harris and Reverend Gerald (Martha) Harris both of Americus, Georgia; four sisters, Ms. Kathleen Harris Monts, Ms. Janice M. Harris both of Americus, Georgia, Mrs. Ruby Harris (Clyde) Maddox of Riverside, California, and Reverend Sherryl Harris (Willie) King of Columbus, Georgia; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Annie Maude Harris and Mrs. Mattie Sue Harris both of Americus, Georgia; one brother-in-law, Mr. John Hall of Americus, Georgia; a devoted cousin, Mrs. Annie Bell Moss; four godsons, Mr. Troy Lewis, Mr. Lynwood Volley, Mr. Mackel Harris, and Mr. Johnny Womack; one goddaughter, Ms. Deborah Foster; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many other special friends.
