Mother Doretha Ashley Grant of 1213 South 14th Street, Cordele, Georgia died Sunday, February 25, 2024 at Community Hospice Vidalia in Vidalia, Georgia.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 3:30 PM in the sanctuary of the Beulahland Baptist Church in Cordele, Georgia.  The burial will follow at the Bethel Cemetery in Cordele, Georgia.

On July 16, 1931, Mother Doretha Ashley Grant was welcomed to this world.  Born in Ashburn, Turner County, Georgia, she was the daughter of West Ashley and Mary Lou Hughes Ashley, both of whom precede her in death.

She received her education from Buck Hill Church in Cordele,  Georgia.  She accepted Christ as her personal Savior and united with the Beulahland Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend T. P. Patterson.  At Beulahland she served as a member of the Senior Choir.

Early in her life, she was employed for 10 years by Howard Johnson Hotel. In 1968, she began her career as a Nurse's Aide at Crane  Retirement Home.  She was a loyal and dedicated employee.  She retired after 25 years of service.

Family meant everything to her.  In her spare time, she loved attending Gospel singings and watching Gospel musicals on television.  She also enjoyed shopping and going to flea markets.

On Sunday, February 25, 2024, she departed this life.  Her loving husband of 72 years, Mr. Curtis Grant, Sr.; her sons, Mr. Henry Lee Grant  and Mr. Curtis Grant, Jr.; her daughters, Ms. Dorothy Jean Grant, Ms. Carolyn W. Grant, and Ms. Linda Faye Grant; and her grandson, Mr. Sebastian Corbin, each precede her in death.  She is also preceded in death by her siblings, Ms. Coretha Ashley, Mr.   Emmette Ashley, Mr. Napoleon Ashley, Mr. S. W. Ashley, Mr. Bud Ashley, and Mr. Booker T. Ashley.

She leaves cherished memories to her loving and devoted daughter, Ms. Mary Ellen Grant of Vidalia, Georgia; her caring son, Reverend Ivory Joe (Dorothy) Corbin of Cordele, Georgia; her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren, Mr. Broderick Porter, Sr. of Cordele, Georgia, Ms. Tranita J. Porter, Mr. Marktavious Dasher, Ms. Tashuna N. Dasher, and Mr. Messiah Dasher of Vidalia, Georgia, Mr. Rico (Kim) Grant and Mr. Aken Grant of Atlanta,  Georgia, Ms. Tierra Porter of Dublin, Ireland, Mr. Brod Porter and Ms. Alexis Porter of Cordele, Georgia, Mr. Brod Porter of Americus, Georgia, Ms. Mia Grant, Mr. Christian Grant, Ms. Ragen Grant and Ms. Akalyn Grant of Atlanta, Georgia, Ms. Yolanda Corbin of  Jacksonville, Florida, Ms. Shemika Ridley of Washington, Mr. Nicholas Harper, Mr. Verocus Grant, Ms. Monique Grant, Ms. Shaquenthia Grant, Ms. Donaicia Grant, and Mr. Dekevin Grant of Cordele, Georgia, Mr. Terrance (Crystal) Grant of Clarksville, Tennessee and Ms. Latasha Grant of Macon, Georgia; a host of nieces and nephews; many cousins, other relatives and friends, to include her devoted friends, Mrs. Eloise Butts, Mother Jessie Kate Harmon, Reverend Dorothy Reeves Jones, Mrs. Margaret P. Mobley, Mrs. Fannie Mumphery, and Mrs. Bernice Dexter.
