Mother Willie Faye Thomas Maddox of 902 Railroad Street, Americus, Georgia died Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at the Phoebe-Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia.
The funeral service will be held Friday, June 17, 2022 at 1:00 PM at the Friendship Baptist Church in Americus, Georgia. The burial will follow at Staley Memorial Garden in Americus, Georgia. Everyone in attendance is asked to please wear a mask and to practice social distancing.
The union of the late Mr. Porter Thomas and the late Mrs. Mattie Thomas was gracefully blessed with the birth of a daughter on April 17, 1923. Born in Sumter County, Andersonville, Georgia, they named her Willie Faye.
Ms. Willie Faye was baptized and accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age. She joined the Union Oak Grove Baptist Church at a young age and served faithfully until her health declined.
She received her childhood education at the Union Oak Grove Church.
Ms. Willie Faye met and fell in love with Mr. Ulysses Maddox. To this union nine children were born and one that she reared as her very own. She is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Ulyssess and four children, Henry Charles Maddox, Sr., Tommy Porter Maddox, Sinclair Maddox, and Annie Lou Maddox. She is also preceded in death by five sisters, Susie Rogers, Emma Sutton, Catherine Maddox, Johnnie Moreland, and Willie Mae Brown.
Ms. Willie loved to cook and taking care of her grandchildren. She was a joy to all.
On Wednesday, June 8, 2022, the final chapter of Ms. Willie's earthly journey was complete. She transitioned while she was a patient at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia.
Cherishing her life, her legacy, and her love, she leaves special memories to her loving children, three daughters, Willie Louise Rouland, Sherlene Lewis (her loving and devoted caregiver), Annie Rose Wilson, and Sabrina Maddox all of Americus, Georgia; two sons, Clyde (Ruby) Maddox of Riverside, California and George (Earnestine) Maddox of Albany, Georgia; two sisters, Mattie Ruth Deriso of Indian Trail, North Carolina and Annie Ruth West of Miami, Florida; two daughters-in-law, Evelyn Maddox and Mattie Maddox both of Americus, Georgia; 28 grandchildren; 58 great grandchildren; 22 great, great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, a host of cousins, other relatives and many sorrowing friends.
