Mother Luecinda Barrett Ray of 4047 Pateville Road, Cordele, Georgia died Thursday, January 25, 2024 at the Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele, Georgia.
The funeral service will be held Sunday, January 28, 2024 at 3:00 PM in the sanctuary of the Davis Chapel CME Church in Arabi, Georgia. The burial will follow at the Little Rock Church Cemetery in Arabi, Georgia.
Mother Luecinda Barrett Ray was born May 15, 1930 in Cordele, Crisp County, Georgia. She was born to the late Mr. Nelson Barrett, Sr. and the late Mrs. Georgia Buckles Barrett.
She was educated in the schools of Crisp County.
A faithful member of the Davis Chapel C. M. E. Church, she served the Lord with a great love. Over the years she served in many capacities of the church, to include Mission Board President, choir member, Usher, Stewardess and Mother of the church.
Her family was very important to her, she enjoyed sewing and cooking for her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed the many special times they shared together. She enjoyed going to church and fellowshipping with others.
Talking on the telephone and working in the yard were amongst the many things she enjoyed doing. She would often say, "take care of God's house and He will take care of yours."
Mother Ray was joined in holy matrimony to Deacon Charles Roy "C. R." Ray, Sr. They shared their lives together until his passing on February 2, 2013. On Thursday, January 25, 2024, our beloved mother and grandmother, transitioned from this life to life eternal.
Many wonderful and cherished memories of her life are left to her loving and devoted children, Mrs. Josephine Knight of Palm Bay, Florida, Mr. Charles Ray, Jr. of Cordele, Georgia, Mrs. Nelsa Singleton of Palm Bay, Florida, Reverend Lorenda Ray and friend, Ms. Fannie Pollock of Cordele, Georgia, Mrs. Betty Brown of Jacksonville, Florida, Deacon Godfrey (Brenda) Ray of Moultrie, Georgia, Mrs. Marilyn Harper (Steward Alfred) of Cordele, Georgia, Dr. Jennifer Ray of Savannah, Georgia, Deacon Ronnie (Minister Sheryl) Ray and Mr. Bobby (Tomico) Ray of Cordele, Georgia; 26 grandchildren; 48 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many, many sorrowing friends.
