Mrs. Marie Lewis Hicks was born on January 20, 1927, in Cochran, Georgia, to her proud parents, Mr. James E. Lewis and Mrs. Verlee Nelson Lewis. She was raised with strong family values and a commitment to education, graduating from the esteemed Gillespie-Selden Institute.
Marie was a devoted member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan. She served her community faithfully under the guidance of Pastor Odell Jones. On January 23, 2025, Marie traded the cares of this world for eternal rest. Her beloved Edward, her parents and siblings: Mrs. Mary L. Haugabrook, Mrs. Mildred Jennings, Mr. Willie Lewis, Mr. Bobby Lewis, Mr. Wallace Lewis, and Mr. Sammie Lewis, each preceded her in death.
Marie leaves behind a legacy of love and family. She will be remembered fondly by her siblings: Mrs. Jeanette Jones of Marietta, Georgia, Mr. Waymon Lewis and his wife, Mrs. Veronica Lewis, of Brooklyn, New York, Mrs. Josephine Booker of Brooklyn, New York, and Mr. Joseph Lewis and his wife, Mrs. Delta Lewis of Decatur, Georgia; her sisters-in-law, Mrs. Doris Lewis of Cordele, Georgia and Mrs. Mary Lewis of Columbus, Georgia; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were touched by her kindness, warmth, and indomitable spirit.
Marie will always be remembered for her unwavering faith, her love for her family and friends, and the joy she brought into the lives of others. Her journey on Earth may have ended but will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her.
