Mr. Lyndon Baines Jones of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania died Wednesday, February 17, 2021.

The graveside funeral service to be attended by the immediate family ONLY will be held Saturday, March 6, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Westview Memorial Gardens in Ashburn, Georgia.  Everyone in attendance is asked to please wear a mask and to practice social distancing.

Mr. Lyndon Baines Jones was born on July 17,1964 in Ashburn, GA. Lyndon was born to Leonard Ray, Sr. and Bernice Jones-Paul. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Mr. Eddie Jones, Sr. and Mrs. Annie Mae Jones, whom raised him from birth and whom he considered his true "mom and dad". Lyndon also has an aunt Ms. Anne Jones who contributed greatly to his upbringing and whom he adored.

Lyndon was educated in the Turner County School District. He graduated from the Turner County High School in 1983 and went on to receive certification in Computer Technology from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA in 1989. As a young man Lyndon gave his life to God and accepted Jesus Christ as the living son of God.  He joined the Ashburn Holiness Church, Ashburn, GA. After moving to Philadelphia, he attended Enon Baptist Church and also fellowshipped with various ministries. Lyndon loved the Lord and made it his business to share his faith with others.

Lyndon led an adventurous life filled with spontaneity. As a child Lyndon had a love for animals and as a result took pleasure in "running the chickens" on his family farm, he even held a funeral where he cried over the loss of one of his beloved dogs. One of his favorite childhood shows was "The Flintstones", he knew each day the exact time to check the clock, and while he was not at that time able to tell time, he could tell how much time he had to play before his favorite show came on simply by looking at the clock! Lyndon also became interested in playing the guitar at the tender age of 9. He developed his interest for playing after going to church one day and listening to Sedrick Kennedy and Russell Jones play, also because of his late grandmother (Annie Mae Jones), she had a guitar that he would pick up and started playing around with only to discover his true "God given gift". After moving to Philadelphia, he worked with his beloved uncle, Enoch Jones. During this time Lyndon began his masonry work and in the words of his Uncle Enoch "that boy could put some mortar on a wall!"  Lyndon went on to start his own construction company LBJ Construction. While he enjoyed building, his love for music was greater. He became a part of the gospel group "The Mighty Huff Singers" where he sang and played lead and bass guitar, Lyndon also played for other groups and more notable, "The Blind Boys of Alabama" and none other than the legendary, Dixie Hummingbirds. During his time with the Dixie Hummingbirds, he received all kinds of accolades which included, a Grammy nomination in 2007 and being inducted into the Gospel Hall of Fame in 2009 just to name a few. Lyndon enjoyed traveling to share the gospel through music, he believed God gave him his gift of ministering through playing his guitar and because of this turned down plenty of mainstream career opportunities saying, "God gave me this gift to serve Him", and that is exactly what he did. Lyndon also took pride in managing the gospel group, God's Grace.

Lyndon will be remembered for so many things but the most important thing for him was his family...oh yeah and fishing, along with partying, tools and trucks!!! He could fish all day if he had time to do so, it was relaxing to him, and if there was music playing, he was either dancing or playing the "air guitar"!! Among other things, Lyndon, was very forgiving and always gave people the benefit of the doubt. One of his quotes was "I aint sweating it, God will get em" or "that joker crazy! Lyndon did not take himself, or life too seriously ,he lived simple, and took pleasure in living in the moment, and definitely was not materialistic. He loved keeping a smile on his face, and to make others laugh!! Lyndon was never scared to show he loved you...if he loved you..lol.   Another thing he enjoyed was returning home a few times a year, it made his heart light up whenever he got to see his favorite aunt, Ann, she was in his words, "my girl"!!

Lyndon was blessed with three beautiful children, Laszhaneah Jones, Shannon Jones, who he taught how to play guitar and Lyndon Jones his son who he instilled the things most fathers teach their sons. Lyndon shared a very close bond with them all, however, Nay was his "mini me", as he would say, and proceed to speak on how proud he was of her. Lyndon also took on a significant role in the life of Adrian Canty as a father figure. He loved her as his own and supported her endeavors. His love ran as deep as an ocean and his heart was larger than life. Lyndon shared in his life with so many wonderful people and boy oh boy could he tell a story and make anyone smile! Lyndon was such a charmer that it was hard not to love him!  Lyndon was a great man, father, grandfather, son, uncle, nephew, friend and will be truly missed.

Lyndon was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Eddie Jones and Annie Mae Jones of Ashburn, GA; his stepfather,  Richard Paul of Valdosta, GA, his paternal grandparents, Mattie Lee Ray and Spivey Ray of Arabi, GA along with his aunts, Sylvia Jones of Macon, GA, Leaster Jones of Ashburn, GA, and his uncle,  Ernest Jones of Great Falls, Montana.

Lyndon leaves to cherish his memory his children, daughters:  Laszhaneah Jones and her husband Channing Walton and Shannon Jones all of Philadelphia, PA; his son, Lyndon Jones of Philadelphia, PA; three grandchildren:  Cayiah Howard, Calvin Howard III, and Cayla Howard all of Philadelphia, PA; his mother, Bernice Jones-Paul of Ashburn, GA, his father, Leonard Ray, Sr. of Arabi, GA; his stepmother, Brenda Ray of Arabi, GA; his siblings, Levalis Paul and his wife, Vanessa Paul and Erica Paul of Fairburn, GA, Leonard Ray and Veronica Oliver and her husband, Willie Oliver all of Cordele, GA, Crystal D. Clark of Perry, GA, Tyrone Ray and his wife, Christopher Elaine Ray of Albany, GA, Victoria James of Byron, GA, Valarie Powell of Rex, GA, Tawana R. Prather of Warner Robins, GA, Samanthea Slade and her husband, Kirk Slade of Albany, GA; his aunts, Anne Jones of Ashburn, GA and Willa (Levi) Bell of Jacksonville, FL; his uncles, Enoch Jones of Bear, DE, Eddie Jones and his wife, Mildred Jones of Orlando, FL, Neal Ray and his wife Ernestine Ray of Warwick, GA, Spivey Ray and his wife, Deborah Ray of Cordele, GA, and Robert Ray and his wife, Pastor Vieliene Ray of Albany, GA. Lyndon also has a host of nieces and nephews along with cousins and friends, all of whom he loved. Lyndon left a meaningful impact on all of the people he met throughout his life and will be truly missed.
