Mrs. Lydia Pearl Tookes Wilson of 811 East Pine Street, Vienna, Georgia died Monday, September 4, 2023 at her residence.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 10:00 AM in the chapel of the J. W. Williams Funeral Home in Cordele, Georgia.  The burial will follow at the Vienna City Cemetery in Vienna, Georgia.

Everyone entering the funeral home for visitations or services is required to wear a mask and to practice social distancing.  A mask must be worn throughout the stay.  You must supply your own mask.

With love and joy in their hearts, Deacon Joe E. and Mrs. Lena Mae Tookes welcome a precious baby girl to their family.  Lydia Pearl was born on January 5, 1933 in Ellaville, Georgia.

She attended grade school in Georgia and completed her education in Michigan.

A believer in the Lord, Jesus Christ, she was a faithful worshipper at the St. James AME Church.  She also enjoyed watching the word of God being shared on television ministries.

For 30 years she was employed by General Motors and was a member of UAW.  She retired in 1979.

She was an active league bowler for many years.  Never a stranger to working and helping others, she loved turning nothing into something of beauty and appreciation.  Building homes for the underprivileged gave her an opportunity to share her building, landscaping and interior decorating skills.  She enjoyed mentoring young minds to be the best productive citizens they could be.  After moving to Dooly County, she  received many awards for her active community involvement.

Above everything else, she will be remembered as a  loving Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Auntie.  She was honored to be the Matriarch of the family.

On  Monday, September 4, 2023, her earthly journey came to a peaceful end.  Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Mr. James Wilson; her children, Ms. Linda Cole, Mrs. Lana Davis and Mr. Dwight Williams; and her brother, Mr. O. C. Tookes.  Her grandparents, Ora & Molly Wilson and Joe E. & Ida Tookes and her aunts and uncle, Mrs. Anna Mae Kleckly, Mrs. Pearlie Demps, Mrs. Gertrude Cotton, Mrs. Cora Dumas, Mrs. Lena Thomas, Mrs. Ozzie Wiggins, and Mr. Cliff Wilson, also precede her in death.

Her legacy will forever be cherished by her children, Mr. Alonzo (Sandy) Cole of Aberdeen, Washington, Mrs. Kathy (Derek) Bolton and Mr. Timothy (Margaret) Rembert of Vienna, Georgia, and Mrs. Mona (Tony) Evans of Smyrna,Texas; her stepdaughter, Mrs. Vanessa Peters of Houston, Texas; her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Renea Clay-Williams of Las Vegas, Nevada; 21 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; her sister, Mrs. Vickie Lynn Tate of Boston, Massachusetts; her nephew, Mr. Andre' Tookes of Boynton Beach, Florida; five   sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; a dear friend, Ms. Patricia Gilyard of Flint, Michigan.
