Mrs. Lois Denson Miles Tookes of 612 Academy Street, Americus, Georgia died Saturday, April 2, 2022 at the Phoebe-Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, April 9, 2022 at 3:30 PM in the sanctuary of the Friendship Baptist Church in Americus, Georgia. The burial will follow at New Mount Mariah Church Cemetery in Americus, Georgia. Everyone in attendance is asked to please wear a mask and to practice social distancing.
Mrs. Lois Denson Tookes was born February 23, 1941 in Cordele, Crisp County, Georgia. She was born to the late Mr. Otha Denson, Sr. and the late Mrs. Josie Idelett Denson.
Lois received her education from Sumter County High School in Americus, Georgia. She furthered her education by earning her certificate as a Rehabilitation Aide from the State of Connecticut. She later received her certification in Emergency Medical Training from South Georgia Technical - Vocational School in Americus, Georgia.
Lois faithfully served the Lord as a dedicated member of the New Mount Mariah Baptist Church. She served as President of the Usher Board and was always willing to do whatever she could for her church and God's people.
Her service was not limited to the church, she served within the community as a member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was also an honorary member of the Desoto's Women Club.
Never a stranger to work, she was employed by Textron Automotive for over 20 years as a Press Operator.
On Saturday, April 2, 2022, the cares of this life were eased, when our beloved went home to be with the Lord. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Otis Tookes.
Her love and her legacy will forever be cherished by her loving and devoted family: her children, Mr. Roger Lee Miles, Jr. of Americus, Georgia, Ms. Tracy Miles of Albany, Georgia, Mrs. Monica Miles-Clemmons (Earnest) and Mr. Leonard Grover (Mary) both of Americus, Georgia, and Ms. Lorna Wilburn of Preston, Georgia; her stepchildren, Mr. John Stewart, Ms. Evelyn Tookes, and Ms. Sylvia Tookes all of Montezuma, Georgia, and Mr. Otis Tookes of Americus, Georgia; a host of grandchildren, to include, Quentin Miles (Makayla), Kameron Clemmons, Jillian Terry, and JaNya Kimbrough all of Americus, Georgia, Octavius Miles (Nakia) of Atlanta, Georgia, Lois "Kierra" Miles, Earnest Clemmons, Jr., and Kendrick Roberts (Tiffany) all of Albany, Georgia, and Crystal Tookes of Tallahassee, Florida; a host of great grandchildren; her sisters, Mrs. Anna Clark and Mrs. Shirley Bennings both of Atlanta, Georgia, Mrs. Geraldine Monroe and Mrs. Cassandra Fleet (Clyde) both of Silver Springs, Maryland; her brother, Mr. Otha Denson, Jr. of Meridian, Mississippi; her in-laws, Mrs. Ilene Hall (Elijah) and Mr. Henry Respert both of Atlanta, Georgia, Mrs. Bernice Sabb (Christopher), Mr. Milton Tookes, and Mr. Motis Tookes all of Jacksonville, Florida, Mrs. Ardean Adams and Mrs. Parthenia Johnson (Nathaniel) both of Lithonia, Georgia, Mrs. Betty Sue Jones (Bennie) of Oglethorpe, Georgia, and Sgt. Vantesha Tookes of Fort Benning, Georgia; her extended family/friends, Mr. Aaron Williams (Olivia) of Atlanta, Georgia, Mr. Kirk Williams of Preston, Georgia, Mrs. Gloria Marshal of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Mrs. Shirley Terry, Mrs. Sarah Slappey both of Americus, Georgia, Ms. Marilynn Blackshear and Mrs. Jennifer Rogers (Steven) and Family; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a multitude of friends.
