Ms. Lillie Mae McBurrows died Tuesday, June 4, 2024 in Abbeville, Georgia.

The graveside funeral service will be held Thursday, June 13, 2024 at 12:00 PM at the New Travelers Home Church Cemetery in Abbeville, Georgia.

The union of Herbert McBurrows and Missouri Fuller McBurrows was blessed with the birth of a daughter on September 7, 1944.  Born in Macon, Georgia, they lovingly named her Lillie Mae.  She transitioned from life to life eternal on Tuesday, June 4, 2024.  She had one sister, four brothers and two sisters-in-law who have preceded her in death: Joyce McBurrows Banks, Wilbur McBurrows, Leon McBurrows (Kiyoko McBurrows) Ellis  McBurrows (Annie McBurrows), and Ernest McBurrows.

At an early age she joined Travelers Home Missionary Baptist Church in Abbeville, Georgia under the leadership of Reverend Walker.  The family had been members for many years and over the years she would return for services at her "home" church.

Lillie received her education from the public school system.  She was a graduate of Excelsior High School in Rochelle, Georgia.  She went on to do further studying at Tuskegee Institute and Fort Valley State University.

Lillie worked many years in the banking industry. In her twenties while residing in Detroit, Michigan she started her career with NBD Bank. She later moved back to Georgia and worked for Citizens and Southern Bank becoming Branch Manager. Later she worked for the Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau and then Dietary Services for Wellstar Health System up to the time of her passing. Throughout her career Lillie received numerous    accolades. She is known to be very professional, kind, have a great spirit and willingness to go the extra mile.

Lillie was a firm believer in maintaining family legacy. She kept family history records and became the overseer of family property. She expressed to her family the importance of knowing your history and passing it on to future generations.

Lillie was a kind and loving soul. She greeted those she loved with a warm smile, hug and laugh. In her spare time, she loved keeping up with current events,  spending time with her family and friends and all things Atlanta.

Memories of her life will be cherished by her sister, Melzie McBurrows White of Detroit, Michigan; her brother, Elmer (Dorothy) McBurrows of West Orange, New Jersey; her sister-in-law, Linda McBurrows of Powder Springs, Georgia; a special friend, John A. Lawson; a host of nieces and nephews who loved her dearly, cousins, other relatives and many sorrowing friends.
