Obituary

United States Marine Corp Veteran Mr. Lawrence Franklin Rowell of 706 Brooklyn Terrace, Americus, Georgia died Monday, May 13, 2024.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 1:00 PM in the sanctuary of the Big Bethel Baptist Church in Americus, Georgia.  The burial will follow at Staley Memorial Garden in Americus, Georgia.

Lawrence Franklin Rowell was born December 25, 1958, in Americus, Sumter County, Georgia. He was lovingly welcomed to this world by his parents, James F. Rowell, Sr. and Alberta W. Rowell. He accepted the Lord as his personal Savior at an early age and joined the Big Bethel Baptist Church.

Educated in the public schools of Sumter County, Lawrence was a 1976 graduate of Americus High School. After the completion of high school, he enlisted in the United States   Marine Corps. He earned an Honorable discharge after seven years of service.

Lawrence was forever a jokester, he simply loved making others laugh. He enjoyed watching television and hanging out with friends. He also loved a delightful home cooked meal.

The concluding chapter in Lawrence's book of life was penned on Monday, May 13, 2024. He is preceded in death by his father, James; his brother, Thaddeus; and his grandparents,  Hosea & Jessie Rowell, and John & Sallie Lou Williams.

Special memories of his life will forever be cherished by his loving family: his mother, Alberta W. Rowell of Americus, Georgia; his children, Derrick Swain (Thaleigha) of Austell, Georgia, Shantrelle Thomas, Sr. (Tannica) of Warner Robins, Georgia, and Lavarus Rowell (Tenia Boone) of Americus, Georgia; his grandchildren, Dominique Swain and Delta Swain of Austell, Georgia, NaShayla Thomas, Shantrelle Thomas, Jr. and Sha'Ziyah Thomas of Warner Robins, Georgia, Lakyran Rowell of Atlanta, Georgia, Raven Rowell of Albany, Georgia, LaKayden Rowell and Cameron Rowell of Americus, Georgia; his great grandchildren, Koada Swain-Elloit and Kyson Rowell of Atlanta, Georgia; his sisters, Pamela Williams (Tommy) of Americus, Georgia and Penelope Ivey Woods (Harold) of Decatur, Georgia; his brother, James F. Rowell, Jr. (Carmen) of Columbus, Georgia; his aunt and uncle, Apostle Helen Felton of Auburn, Alabama and Dr. Charles Rowell of College Station, Texas; his stepmother, Mary Jo Rowell of Americus, Georgia; his nieces and nephews, Tonada Andrews of Fort Worth, Texas, Taralyn Tobias (Tony) of Huntsville, Alabama, Taylon Rowell of Vicksburg, Mississippi, Mikaela Rowell of Fort Worth, Texas, Spencer Ivey, Charity Ivey, and Destiny Ivey of Decatur, Georgia; his great nephews and niece, Titus Rowell, Tyson Rowell, and Taliyah Tobias; a host of cousins, other relatives and many sorrowing friends, to include his high school friend, Ferlin Tyson and the Eastview Drive Neighborhood.
