Ms. Laura Mae Mathis Austin of 524 Gregory Street, Vienna, Georgia, died Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at her residence.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 10:00 AM in the sanctuary of St. Mark Baptist Church in Vienna, Georgia.  The burial will follow at the Vienna City Cemetery in Vienna, Georgia.

Laura Mae Mathis Austin was born on January 2, 1955, in the comforting embrace of her family home in Vienna, Georgia. She was the cherished daughter of J. W. Mathis and Dora Riggins Mathis. From a young age, Laura displayed a profound sense of compassion and dedication that would define her life's journey.

Laura was a proud graduate of Dooly County High School, where she embraced her identity as a Viking. Her school years were marked by a deep commitment to her studies and a strong connection to her community. After graduating, she continued to be a vibrant presence in Vienna, engaging actively with her church and community.

A devoted member of the Lebanon Baptist Church, Laura's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She lived her beliefs through action, embodying the spirit of service and love. Her dedication extended beyond her immediate community as she volunteered with Easter Seals, offering her time and care to those in need.

Laura's life was a testament to selfless caregiving. She dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her brother and son, along with her daughter. Her nurturing nature and unwavering support made her a pillar of strength for her  family. Known as the sweetest lady one could ever meet, Laura's kindness and warmth touched everyone she encountered.

Laura Mae Mathis Austin's life was a beacon of love and dedication. Her unwavering compassion and nurturing spirit have left an indelible mark on her family and community. Though she is no longer with us, her memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. She passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, J. W. Mathis and Dora Riggins Mathis, and her siblings, Larry Mathis and W. J. Mathis.

Her legacy of love and compassion lives on through her loving children, Darnell Felton and Anitra Austin, both of Vienna, Georgia; her sisters, Geraldine (Melvin) Daniels and Dianne Mathis, both of Vienna, Georgia; her aunts, Rosie Lee (Willie J.) Riggins of Vienna, Georgia, and Minister Barbara Mathis of Newark, New Jersey; her nieces and nephews, Melanie (Larry) Quintyne of Macon, Georgia, Tabitha Harrell of Warner  Robins, Georgia, Ariel Young, Orlando Taylor of Stockbridge, Georgia, LaChandra Mathis McKeever of Cordele, Georgia; her great nieces and great nephews, De'Ericka, Sakeyvious, Jhi'Marre, Tyvaryon, Whitney, Alandrea, Marquell, Kelandeon, and Winter; many sisters-in-law who reside in Atlanta and Vienna, who loved her dearly; a host of cousins, other   relatives and many sorrowing friends.
