Mrs. Joycelyn Lewis of 1107 South 10th Street, Cordele, Georgia died Monday, August 21, 2023 at her residence.
The funeral service will be held Monday, August 28, 2023 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of the J. W. Williams Funeral Home in Cordele, Georgia. The burial will follow at the Westview Cemetery in Cordele, Georgia.
Everyone entering the funeral home for visitations or services is required to wear a mask and to practice social distancing. A mask must be worn throughout the stay. You must supply your own mask.
Mrs. Joycelyn Williams Coffen Lewis was born on February 23, 1937 in Cordele, Georgia to the late Mr. and Mrs. Morris R. Williams, Sr.
Mrs. Lewis was educated at Southview Elementary School, The Holsey-Cobb Institute in Cordele and Albany State College in Albany, Georgia. She married Mr. Elson Coffen, Sr. on January 25, 1958. Along with their two sons, Gerald and Elson Jr., they shared their lives together until his passing. She later met and married Mr. Willie James Lewis. Their union was blessed with the birth of two daughters, Juandalyn and Marletti.
Mrs. Lewis was a faithful and loyal member of the Americus Pentecostal Church for 25 plus years. She served as the Assistant Secretary of Sunday School, the APC Choir, a dedicated Usher, and a member of Sisters Loving Sisters. She also joyfully participated in other activities of the church until her health failed.
Mrs. Lewis is preceded in death by her late, beloved husband, Mr. Willie James Lewis, her daughter, Juandalyn Lewis and her sons, Mr. Gerald Coffen of Valdosta, Georgia and Mr. Elson Coffen of Stone Mountain, Georgia. Her brothers, Mr. Morris R. Williams, Jr. of Cordele, Georgia and Dr. W. Clyde Williams of Atlanta, Georgia, also precede her in death.
She leaves many and cherished fond memories with her daughter, Ms. Marletti Guest of Cordele, Georgia; her stepdaughter, Mrs. Loretta (Reco) Harvey; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; her sisters, Mrs. Evelyn Robinson of Fort Valley, Georgia, Mrs. Joan Hayes of Savannah, Georgia, and Mrs. Maryann Pickard of the US Virgin Islands; six sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; a host of caring nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many sorrowing friends.
