Ms. Johnnie Mae Dunbar of 607 South 9th Street, Cordele, Georgia died Thursday, May 23, 2024 at Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele, Georgia.
The funeral service will be held Sunday, June 2, 2024 at 3:00 PM in the sanctuary of the Gethsemane Baptist Church in Cordele, Georgia. The burial will follow at the Macedonia Church Cemetery, Drayton Community, Vienna, Georgia.
Each of us are placed in this world for a time and a season. Our beloved Johnnie Mae Dunbar's season of life began on May 3, 1951. She was born in Cordele, Crisp County, Georgia to John Wallace and Mae Ola Dunbar.
She was enrolled in the public school system. She completed the 1st through 7th grades in Crisp County. She continued her education in the public schools of Brooklyn, New York. She was a graduate of Bushwick High School. While living in New York, she worked as a supervisor at Kennedy Airport.
Johnnie had a great love for the Lord. She accepted him as her Savior and worshipped him with her whole heart. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Tabernacle in New York. After returning to Cordele, she united with the Gethsemane Baptist Church where sang with The Voices of Praise.
On Thursday, May 23, 2024, her earthly season ended. She is preceded in death by her parents; her companion, Clarence Corley; her sister, Hildred Dunbar; and her brother, Richard Dunbar.
She is survived by her loving and caring family: her adopted daughter, Vanessa Lowe of Americus, Georgia; her sisters, Brenda Dunbar of Columbia, South Carolina and Cynthia Dunbar of Brooklyn, New York; her brothers, Roosevelt Dunbar, Lewis Dunbar, and Gary Dunbar all of Brooklyn, New York; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many sorrowing friends.
