Mr. Joe Louis Nelson better known as "Joe Simon" of 221 Main Street, Warwick, Georgia died Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at his residence.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, July 2, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at the J. W. Williams Funeral Home Porte Cochere in Cordele Georgia. The burial will follow at the Shepard Memorial Garden in Sylvester Georgia.  Everyone in attendance is asked to please wear a mask and to practice social distancing.

A hard worker, provider, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Many remember Joe as some or all these things. We remember him as a loving, caring and passionate man. He loved his wife and cared so much for his family.

Joe Louis Nelson was born on January 28, 1949, in Worth County to Catherine Nelson and Willie Nelson, Sr.  Though his biological father passed away when he was just a small child, Joe was blessed to have a great relationship with his stepfather, Edmond Gervin.

Joe spent his younger years attending New Hope School and playing with his siblings and cousins around Mill Pond Road.

Joe started his career at Floyd Timber Company in 1972 as a yard supervisor and continued there until his retirement in 2008.  After retirement, Joe started his new career as a full-time grandpa where his main job was to spoil his grandchildren. After working so tirelessly for all those years, Joe was finally able to enjoy his home with his wife, sitting on the porch, and living a good life!

Joe Nelson symbolized his love and dedication to the Lord and was baptized in June of 2020. He became a member of the New Life Christian Center of Warwick, Georgia until he was called home.

On the morning of June 21, 2022, Joe's journey on this earth ended as his new life with the Lord began.

Cherished memories are left to his devoted wife of 41 years, Florence Hamilton-Nelson, his loving children, Michael Joe Nelson (Veronica) and Nikkitress Mychelle Nelson (Sirmel); grandchildren, Tyshawn Coleman, Keidra Clark, Melany Nelson, Orion and Raina Roots; siblings, Glenice Jones, Janice Gamble (Johnny) and Thomas Nelson; bonus siblings, Johnny Hamilton, Jr. (Brenda), Joyce Williams (Hershel), Cassie Winkfield (Chris), Jacqueline Munford, Cecil Hamilton, Reginald Hamilton (Ruby), Carla Michelle Hamilton, Henry Tracy Hamilton (Tijuana) and Merita Jones (Robert), a niece, Verna Michelle Curry who acted as his caregiver during later years. Also, as we know family members are not always biological, Joe had three lifelong friends, brothers, Walter Tellis and Rufus Tellis and the late Freddie Buford who were just like brothers to him; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
