Mr. James Solomon McCray of 359 Countyline Sneed Road, Leslie, Georgia, died Monday, April 13, 2026.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of St. John Baptist Church in Leslie, Georgia. The burial will follow at St. John Cemetery in Leslie, Georgia.

Everyone entering the funeral home for visitations or services is required to wear a mask and maintain social distancing. A mask must be worn throughout the stay. You must supply your mask.

James Solomon McCray was born on April 18, 1943, in Leslie, Georgia, to the late Willie Lou McCray. Later in life, he accepted Christ and was baptized at St. John Baptist Church, where he faithfully served as an usher.

On February 27, 1965, he was united in marriage to the former Dorothy Ruth Carter. From this loving union, six children were born. James was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He was known for his caring and compassionate spirit, as well as his wonderful sense of humor. If he ever shared a joke or a story about you, it was his way of showing that you held a special place in his heart.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 61 years, Dorothy McCray; four sons, James McCray and John McCray of Leslie, Georgia, Andrew (Lois) McCray of Manassas, Virginia, and Michael McCray of Leslie, Georgia; and two daughters, Mary DaSilva of Madison, Alabama, and Brenda Alford (Luther) of Americus, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Boaventura DaSilva.

He is also survived by his brothers, Raymond McCray of Americus, Georgia, Joel Hall of Pensacola, Florida, and Willie James (Gussie) Owens of Leesburg, Georgia. He was preceded in death by four brothers: Howard McCray Jr., Johnny Will McCray, King McCray, and Arthur Lee McCray. James leaves behind his sisters, Annie Ruth Thomas and Mary Lou Davis of Americus, Georgia. He was preceded in death by three sisters: Glendora Tucker, Hazel Robinson, and Willie Mae Thompson.

He is further survived by sisters-in-law Willie Mae Davey and Diane Nixon of Springfield, Massachusetts; and Mamie McCray, Leslie, GA. He was preceded in death by sisters-in-law Cora Nixon and Mattie Gasque, as well as brothers-in-law Johnny Carter and Dean Nixon.

Cherishing his memory are his grandchildren: Sharonda McCray of Dallas, Georgia; Raheem Hampton of Leslie, Georgia; Lisa (Nicholas) Benton of Madison, Alabama; Jasmine DaSilva and Boaventura DaSilva II of Madison, Alabama; Luther Alford III, Emily Alford, and Heidi Alford of Americus, Georgia; and Tia McCray of Cordele, Georgia; Joshua (Lauren) Brock, Texas,  Angela Brock, Minuette (Donald) Corbin, San Antonio, TX. He  also leaves his great-grandchildren: Aiden Alford of Americus, Georgia; Riley McCray, Caden McCray, Amir Montford, and Harlyn Montford of Cordele, Georgia; Isaiah Brock, Elijah Brock, and Lilyanna Brock; Gracelynn and Gabriella Corbin, Texas; Angel and Jayden Brock, Texas. He also leaves a devoted nephew, Greg Daniels; a cherished best friend and cousin, Arthur Deriso; a good friend Willie Snead and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by two devoted friends, Johnny Preston and Floyd Deriso.
