Mapp
Nov 25, 1936 — May 9, 2025
Cor
Ms. Glory Mapp of 902 Blackshear Road, Cordele, Georgia died Friday, May 9, 2025 at the Crisp Regional Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Cordele, Georgia.
The graveside funeral service will be held Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the Bethel Cemetery in Cordele, Georgia.
Glory Rogers Mapp was born on November 25, 1936, in Crisp County, Georgia, to parents Delree Rogers and Curtis Rogers, Sr. She was the fourth eldest of 14 children and grew up in a loving, supportive home.
In her youth, Glory was characterized as being very stubborn, and this was particularly true when it came to picking cotton. Despite the pressure and sometimes discipline from her father, her stubbornness reigned supreme. Eventually, she was left alone, and she pursued her education.
She graduated from Gillespie-Selden Institute in 1954. She would later work for the Cordele Police Department as a Parking Enforcement Officer. During her tenure, new policies were enacted that required all officers to be Police Academy graduates. She had to decide whether to find a new job or attend the Police Academy. Glory defied expectations and graduated from the police academy at the age of 45, a groundbreaking achievement for a woman of her time. Her strength and determination were evident in all she did, from her service in law enforcement to her unwavering commitment to helping others.
A proud member of Emanuel Missionary Baptist Church, Glory found joy in singing with the choir and dedicating her time to the church's food bank, ensuring those in need were cared for. She possessed an extraordinary heart, always seeking the good in people - even those who may not have had her best interests at heart. Glory's life was a testament to strength, service, and kindness. Her legacy lives on in those she loved and those she helped along the way.
Above all, Glory was a loving yet firm mother, raising two sons on her own. They both grew into outstanding men under her guidance. Her legacy of love, resilience, and generosity will forever live in them.
Glory Rogers Mapp, beloved mother, devoted community member, and trailblazer, passed away on the morning of May 9, 2025, at Crisp Regional Nursing and Rehab.
Glory's life was blessed with the joy of family. She will be lovingly remembered by her beloved and caring sons, Marchan (Jeanne) Mapp of Atlanta, Georgia and Carlius Mapp of Land O Lakes, Florida; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; her sisters, Jewel Scott of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Mary (Jerome) Adams of Cordele, Georgia; her brothers, Leroy Rogers, Jesse (Helen) Rogers, and Donald (Gladys) Rogers of Cordele, Georgia, and Charles Rogers of Atlanta, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends also survive her.
