Mrs. Geneva Woods Mayes of 611 Dismuke Street, Americus, Georgia, died Tuesday, November 19, 2025, at her residence.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, December 5, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the sanctuary of the Union Tabernacle Baptist Church in Americus, Georgia.  The burial will follow at the Eastview Cemetery in Americus, Georgia.

Geneva Woods Mayes was born on September 29, 1951, in Americus, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Mr. O. C. Woods and Mrs. Ruby Lee Gary Woods. From an early age, Geneva's vibrant spirit and love for people stood out. She pursued her education at North East Elementary High School, proudly graduating with the Class of '69.

Geneva was a dynamic individual whose hobbies included working, playing softball, and engaging with others. Her love for sports and her affable nature made her a beloved figure in her community. Known for being outspoken, she made friends easily and was cherished by many.

Geneva held various positions throughout her career. She began her tenure at the Sumter County Courthouse on January 7, 1990, and continued to serve there until December 21, 2003. In addition to her courthouse role, she contributed to Medicon Transportation, Pro-Care, and the Sumter County Bus Transportation, leaving a lasting impact in each role.

Geneva Woods Mayes departed this life on November 19, 2025. She was predeceased by her husband, Roy Mayes, as well as two brothers, Henry Woods and Daniel C. Woods, a nephew, Charles J. Tookes, a brother-in-law, Logan J. Tookes, and an aunt, Clara M. Gary-Daniel.

Geneva's life was a testament to resilience, community, and love. Her ability to connect with others and her dedication to her family and work will always be remembered by all who knew her. Her memory lives on through the lives she touched and the family she cherished.

She leaves behind a legacy through her surviving family: two  daughters, one devoted daughter, Ginny M. Woods and Ruby J. Woods (Travis L. Milledge); five grandchildren, two devoted grandchildren, Jau'Nyia C. Woods (MonQuavious Jackson), and Jau'Nosa C. Woods, Bianca L. Woods (Glenn Harper), George C. Woods, and Ra'Qhia C. Price; five great-grandchildren: G'Marion Harper, G'Kaiden Harper, Giovonnie Harper, Jau'Riah J. Woods, and Summer Woods; her sisters, Annie Ruth Tookes and Bobbie Woods (Robert McCoy), Carolyn Davis-Brown of Americus, Georgia, and Erica M. Sharper (Demarrio) of Thomasville, Georgia; one brother, Sir Edward Woods of Atlanta, Georgia; three nephews, Logan J. Tookes, Henry D. Woods, and Corey Davis; four nieces, Ann Denise Tookes-Deans, Areatha D. Woods, Crystal Davis, and Kylar D. Woods and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends who mourn her passing and celebrate her life.
