United States Army Veteran, Mr. Fred Albert Wooden, III, formerly of Americus, Georgia, died Thursday, March 26, 2026, at his residence in  Fayetteville, North Carolina.

The funeral service will be on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM in the sanctuary of the Big Bethel Baptist Church in Americus, Georgia. The burial, with military honors, will follow at the Andersonville National Cemetery in Andersonville, Georgia.

Fred Albert Wooden, III was born on October 10, 1955, in Americus, Georgia. He was the cherished son of Fred Oliver Wooden, II, and Helen Louise Dent Wooden. Fred was educated in the Sumter County School System and proudly graduated from Americus High School in 1976.

After completing his education, Fred enlisted in the United States Army, where he served with dedication as a Patient Care Specialist and Medical Specialist. Throughout his service, he earned several commendations, including the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Medal, which he was awarded twice. His commitment to his country and his exemplary conduct were evident in all his endeavors.

Fred Albert Wooden, III, will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his service to his country, and the kindness and warmth he shared with   everyone he met. His legacy is one of love, strength, and service, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Fred transitioned on March 26, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love and service. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Fred Albert Wooden, V and his beloved sisters, Kay Marshall Colwell and Delbra Lane Sims.

He is survived by his wife, Lenora Jones Wooden, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, his children, Fred Oliver Wooden, IV, (Jessica) of Fayetteville, North Carolina. Willie Morris Brown of  Northern Virginia, and Dynae Renee Wilk of Alexandria, Virginia; his grandchildren, Haley Dawn Wooden, Fred Oliver Wooden, VI, and Aubrey Renee Wooden; his brother, Marcus Raven of Americus, Georgia; his godchildren, Marsitekia Raven, Kendra Raven, and Marcus N. Raven; his nieces and nephews, Katrina  Leverette and Samuel Colwell, Jr. of Columbus, Georgia; Kemecha Sims of Columbus, Georgia; Elias Sims, IV of Americus, Georgia; Reuban Davis of South Carolina; and Maurice Jackson of Kentucky; a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
