Ms. Ella Mae Mumphery of 1330 Forsyth Street, Macon, Georgia died Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at her residence.

The funeral service will be held Friday, August 12, 2022 at Noon at the A. S. Clark Auditorium on the campus of the M. D. Whitest Medical Institute in Cordele, Georgia.  The burial will follow at the Bethel Cemetery in Cordele, Georgia.  Everyone in attendance is asked to please wear a mask and to practice social distancing.

On May 12, 1952, a beautiful baby girl by the name of Ella Mae Mumphery was born in Cordele, Crisp County, GA to the parentage of the late Deacon Elbert Mumphery, II and the late Mrs. Mattie Florene Bacon Mumphery. Ella is the 13th child of fifteen children born to a family deeply rooted in their beliefs and faithful in serving the Lord.

Ella entered first grade at Southview Elementary, she started her high school journey at A.S. Clark High School. Ella was a lead majorette of the A.S. Clark High School Marching Band, a member of the school chorus and participated in several groups and clubs. She completed her high school journey, as a proud member of the Class of 1970. Upon graduating from A.S. Clark, Ella attended Valdosta State University in Valdosta, GA, and later relocated to Mount Vernon, NY.

After relocating to New York, Ella enrolled in college and while attending college, she was employed with several companies:  Security Guard at IBM Corporation, White Plains, NY; Salesperson, Annie Says Women's Boutique, New Rochelle, NY.  She was also employed overseeing testing sites for the police and firemen exams in surrounding areas.

In 1980 Ella earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Mercy College, Dobbs Ferry, NY. She also obtained several certificates from attending various workshops throughout Westchester County, which included Counseling,  Mental Health Awareness, Data Input, etc. Ella was employed by WJCS (Westchester Jewish Community Service) as an Intake Therapist for several years, she later became an Intake Therapist at Queens County Criminal Court, Kew Gardens, NY.  She held that position for several years and later retired.

Ella became a member of Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church, at an early age, under the  pastoral leadership of the late Reverend W. W. Reynolds. At Gethsemane, Ella was a member of the Junior Choir and often participated in different church programs. Ella was a highly active   member of Gethsemane until graduating from high school.

After moving to Mount Vernon, New York, Ella had a yearning to connect with a church because she was rooted in serving the Lord. She became a faithful member of the Historic Grace Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Reverend Dr. W. Franklyn Richardson. She was a member of the Women's Ministry, The Grace Ensemble, The Grace Church Choir, Clerical Support Ministry, Church School Teacher, Vacation Bible School, and participated in several committees and different church projects and programs.

The Lord blessed Ella with a beautiful daughter Heather Tokeisha Mumphery. She was doubly blessed with a beautiful and gorgeous granddaughter, Cheneyrae Tolisa Chambree Mumphery.

After the death of her mother, Ella had a desire to move closer to home. In 2005, Ella moved to the St. Paul Apartments in Macon, GA. After moving to Macon, she became very active at the apartment complex and in the community. She served on the St. Paul Apartments Residents  Council, as the Assistant Secretary and she also served on the Board of Directors of the Macon-Bibb County Transit  Authority.

Ella would visit her hometown, Cordele, frequently and she would visit her home church, Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church. When visiting her home church she would serve the Lord.   She would attend Sunday School and Worship Service.  She attended and taught Vacation Bible School, she would help in any way that was possible. Upon visiting Gethsemane, Ella and the former pastor, Reverend Dr. L. D. Cobb, Sr. and former First Lady Shirley Cobb became best friends. Ella always stated, I have two pastors, Reverend Dr. W. Franklyn Richardson in New York and Reverend Dr. L. D. Cobb, Sr. in Georgia.

Ella departed this life on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at her home. Ella was preceded in death by her parents; two of her brothers, Elbert, II and Charleston Lee Mumphery; six of her sisters, Willie Mae, Zira Mae, Emma Jean, Betty, Lois, and Lillie.

Ella leaves to cherish her precious memories, her daughter, Heather Tokeshia Mumphery; granddaughter, Cheneyrae Tolisa Chambree Mumphery of Mt. Vernon, NY; five sisters; Genivieve Mumphery, Evon Hughes (Leon), Florene Manning (John Arthur) of Cordele, GA, Mary Dolberry (John) and Lula Mumphery Johnson of Mt. Vernon, NY; two brothers, Willie Mumphery (Virginia) of Cordele, GA, and Bonzie Lee Mumphery, Sr., Jamaica, NY, a sister-in-law, Grace Fairchild Mumphery of Chicago, IL.

She also leaves to cherish her precious memories with several very special nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, great-great nephews, a very special and loving cousin, Ruthie Mumphery Johnson of Atlanta, GA, along with many other loving cousins, and friends.
