Mrs. Dorothy Ruth Smith Ray of 1303 East 8th Avenue, Cordele, Georgia died Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at her residence.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of the J. W. Williams Funeral Home in Cordele, Georgia. The burial will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery in Cordele, Georgia.
Everyone entering the funeral home for visitations or services is required to wear a mask and to practice social distancing. A mask must be worn throughout the stay. You must supply your own mask.
Mrs. Dorothy Ruth Smith Ray was born July 27, 1948 in Cordele, Georgia. She was born to Mr. Albert Smith, Sr. and Mrs. Ruby Mae Guess Smith.
Dorothy was educated in the Crisp County Public School System. She enjoyed cooking, and spending time with family and friends. She took great pleasure in finding great deals at the local yard sales.
Dorothy was employed by various companies. Over the years she worked at Cordele Uniform Company, Mars Candies, and Tyson Foods.
On Tuesday, September 26, 2023 she said farewell to this earthly life. Dorothy is preceded in death by her father, Mr. Albert Smith, Sr.; her mother, Mrs. Ruby Mae Guess Smith; her husband, Mr. Earnest Lee Brown; her brother, Mr. Robert Smith, Sr., and her grandson, Mr. Michael Hall.
Dorothy leaves cherished memories to her five children, Mr. Keefus (Eula) Smith of Jonesboro, Georgia, Mrs. Angela (Dennis) Buckholts of Pinehurst, Georgia, Mr. Eric Smith of Cordele, Georgia, Ms. LaShunda Coley of Perry, Georgia, and Ms. Anquaria Coney of Vero Beach, Florida; her four sisters, Mrs. Bertha (Carl) Riggins of St. Petersburg, Florida, Mrs. Brenda (Zilmer) Lucas, Mrs. Carolyn (Abraham) Troutman, and Ms. Eula Kim Smith all of Cordele, Georgia; her two brothers, Mr. Raymond Smith, Sr. of Tampa, Florida and Mr. Albert (Gina) Smith, Jr. of Montgomery, Alabama.
She was blessed to have had 13 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two amazing aunts, Mrs. Lelia Smith and Mrs. Sara Roundtree both of Cordele, Georgia; a host of special nieces and nephews; many cousins, other relatives and many sorrowing friends, to include, Deacon Joe Wedges of Cordele, Georgia and Mrs. Ida Simmons of Macon, Georgia.
