Mrs. Dorothy Jones Obie of 118 Covey Rise, Warner Robins, Georgia died Monday, January 17, 2022 at the Houston Medical Center in Warner Robins, Georgia.
The graveside funeral service will be held Monday, January 24, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Vienna City Cemetery in Vienna, Georgia. Everyone in attendance is asked to please wear a mask and to practice social distancing. There will be no viewing at the service.
Our beloved Dorothy Jones Obie was born on May 29, 1956 in St. Petersburg, Florida. She was born to Willie Jones, Sr. and Ethel Neal Jones.
Dorothy received her early education from the public school system. She continued her education at South Georgia Tech in Americus, Georgia where she earned an Associate degree. After teaching in the Dooly County School System for several years, she moved to North Carolina. She completed her courses and earned an Associate degree in Early Childhood Education from Coastal Carolina Community College. She continued her teaching career and worked for over 25 years.
Dorothy was an active member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Jacksonville, North Carolina. She loved the Lord and lived to build a close relationship with him. She committed herself to work for the Lord and was always willing to help others.
Upon relocating to Jacksonville, North Carolina, she met and married the "love of her life," James Obie, Sr. and to their union a son, Antonio, was born. As a military family they moved around the country giving her an opportunity to connect with other military spouses. Many longtime relationships developed and Dorothy was able to keep in touch with her friends with love, support, and encouragement. She loved to read, travel, and helping others. She recently enjoyed spending time with her son and granddaughter, as well as friends while in Jacksonville, North Carolina.
On Monday, January 17, 2022 she peacefully transitioned from this life. Her father and her sisters, Laura Simmons and Sarah McClendon, precede her in death.
She leaves many precious memories to a loving and devoted son, Mr. Antonio Obie of Jacksonville, North Carolina; her adored granddaughters, Nevaeh Obie of Vienna, Georgia and Eris Obie of Jacksonville, North Carolina; her loving and devoted mother, Mother Ethel Jones of Vienna, Georgia; her loving sisters, Ms. Betty Brown of Carrollton, Georgia, Ms. Linda Jones, Ms. Brenda Cooper, and Mrs. Mary J. (Jim) Redding all of Vienna, Georgia, Ms. Shirley Bryant of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Ms. Patricia Neal of Hendersonville, North Carolina, and Ms. Irene Jones of Warner Robins, Georgia; her caring brothers, Mr. Sammy (Joann) Jones of Montgomery, Alabama, Mr. Willie Claude (Kay) Spivey of St. Petersburg, Florida, Mr. Clarence (Eula) Spivey of Atlanta, Georgia, Mr. Marcus (Stacey) Jones of Montezuma, Georgia, Mr. Willie (Karen) Jones of Charlotte, North Carolina, Mr. William Jones and Mr. Bobby Jones both of Warner Robins, Georgia, Mr. Larico (Mary) Jones and Mr. Christopher (Kiesha) Jones both of Atlanta, Georgia; a beloved godson, Mr. Waverly Webb, Jr. of Rayville, Louisiana; a host of nieces and nephews; many cousins, other relatives and many sorrowing friends, to include, Ms. Michelle Harris of Rayville, Louisiana, Ms. Sabrina Ross, Ms. Diane Cosby, and Ms. Valerie Turner all of Jacksonville, North Carolina.
