Ms. Doretha Reese Whitehead of 813 West 27th Avenue, Cordele, Georgia, died Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele, Georgia.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of the J. W. Williams Funeral Home in Cordele, Georgia.  The burial will follow at the Sunnyside Cemetery in Cordele, Georgia.

Everyone entering the funeral home for visitations or services is required to wear a mask and maintain social distancing.  A mask must be worn throughout the stay.  You must supply your mask.

Doretha Reese Whitehead, age 73, peacefully departed this life on Saturday, September 20, 2025. Born on September 1, 1952, in Cordele, Georgia, to the late Willie Bee and Vallie Cooks Reese, Doretha's life was a beautiful blend of strength, laughter, compassion, and resilience.

From a young age, Doretha was known for her adventurous spirit and curiosity about the world around her. Whether it was learning a new skill, exploring a new opportunity, or simply figuring out how things worked, she approached life with an open mind and a fearless heart. She pursued education and careers as both a Licensed Practical Nurse and a cosmetologist, touching lives with her healing hands and creative flair. Never one to be boxed in, she later embraced entrepreneurship, operating a restaurant and nightclub, creating not only good food and good times, but memories that many in the community still cherish.

In her later years, Doretha found new joy in caring for children, working for the Crisp County School System as a lunchroom monitor at J.S. Pate  Elementary School. The children brought her a sense of purpose and lightness, and in return, she gave them kindness and warmth that went far beyond a lunchroom greeting. After retiring, she fully embraced her role as the beloved family matriarch, personal chef, and proud grandmother—a title she wore with joy and grace.

Doretha loved deeply and laughed often. She filled her home with the sounds of old-school music, the smells of her unbeatable Southern cooking, and the energy of children playing. Her laugh was contagious and her presence unforgettable. She had a green thumb and a keen eye for a good find at yard sales, always picking up little treasures that meant a lot to those she loved.

In her later years, Doretha bravely faced the challenges of dementia, which quietly crept into her life and changed her path. But through it all, her strength and spirit never faded. She fought valiantly—with grace, dignity, and a warrior's heart. Heaven has truly gained a fighter, a nurturer, and a soul full of light.

She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, her beloved daughter Adorcus Whitehead, a stepson Leonard Patrick Jr. and siblings  Nellie Whitest, Millide Reese, and Forest Riley

She leaves behind a loving legacy and is survived by her dedicated partner, Leonard Patrick Sr, and her cherished children: Marcia Whitehead  Adetomiwa, Pierette (Waverly) Patterson, Dawana (Charles) Savage, Leonora (Lowane) Harrell, Lentacious Patrick, and stepson Ashlen (Karee) Wilson.

Her love also lives on in her siblings and in-laws: Polly Thronton, Arthur Lee (Denise) Reese, Sallie Bee Reese, Grace Reese, Betty Whitehead, Jackie (Fred) Brown, Beryl Patrick, Larry Patrick, and Fredrick (Patricia) Patrick.

She is also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Avinca Whitehead, Dorquila (Charlie) Thomas, Kenya Whitehead, Shikina Collins, Bernarda King, Passionese Paul, Bricen Harrell, Sarai Savage, Zayden Savage, Zion  Patrick, Zada Savage, Lael Harrell, Sanaa Savage, 14 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends—including her special friends Loretta Harvey, Reba Burnam and Julie James, and a devoted cousin, San Evans.

Doretha Reese Whitehead lived a life of boldness, compassion, and love. She taught us how to fight with faith, to care deeply, and to always make room for joy. Her memory will live on in every meal shared, every song sung, every flower bloomed, and every burst of laughter echoing through her family.
