Obituary

Ms. Del Marie Watkins Smith of Cordele, Georgia died Saturday, July 2, 2022 at the Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele, Georgia.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, July 9. 2022 at 12:00 Noon at the J. W. Williams Funeral Home Porte Cochere in Cordele, Georgia.  The burial will follow at the Bethel Cemetery in Cordele, Georgia.  Everyone in attendance is asked to please wear a mask and to practice social distancing.

Our beloved, Ms. Del Marie Watkins Smith was born March 29, 1948 in New York, New York to Mrs. Virginia Watkins  Oliver.

She attended the public schools in New York until moving to her mother's birth place, Adel, Georgia.  At the age of adulthood, Del Marie decided to travel and explore her horizons.  She moved back to New York and began working at King Cole.

She later moved to Milton, Delaware where she met the love of her life.  She was joined in holy matrimony to Mr. J. W. Smith and their union was blessed with three children, Virginia, Santa Marie, and Maurice.

In 1994, during the time of her mother's illness, Del Marie moved to Cordele.  She was employed by Krystal's until reaching the age of retirement when she spent many days watching Westerns and sports on television.

Del Marie accepted Christ and became a member of the New William Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Nekita Lester.

On Saturday, July 2, 2022 her journey came to a peaceful end.  Along with her husband, she is preceded in death by her daughters, Ms. Virginia W. Rodriquez and Ms. Santa Marie Smith and her sisters, Miss Venus Michelle Oliver, Miss E'trenda Denise Oliver, Mrs. Daisy B. Wellons, and Mrs.  Dianne F. Holder.

She leaves cherished memories to her loving son, Mr. Maurice (Brittany) Smith of Warner Robins, Georgia and Ms. Santa Marie Smith; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; her loving sisters, Mrs. Shirley Ross Fenn, Ms. Jacqueline Oliver, and Mrs. Rosalyn (Victor) Montford all of Cordele, Georgia, Mrs. Rose Mary (Daryl) Hall of Ashburn, Georgia, Minister Angela (Thomas) Bailey of Mableton, Georgia, Ms. Valerie  Oliver of Cordele, Georgia, and Ms. Donna Oliver of Phenix City, Alabama; two beloved brothers, Mr. Michael Oliver and Mr. Kenneth Oliver both of Cordele, Georgia; a brother-in-law, Mr. Michael Holder of Cordele, Georgia; 15 nieces; 17 nephews; a host of great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews; many cousins, other relatives and many sorrowing friends, to include Ms. Renay Harvey and Mr. Julian Dean both of Cordele, Georgia.
