Deacon Charles Wilburn Outlaw, Sr. of 402 East 19th Avenue, Cordele, Georgia died Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at the Cordele Health and Rehabilitation Center in Cordele, Georgia.
The funeral service will be held Friday, July 22, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the J. W. Williams Funeral Home Porte Cochere in Cordele, Georgia. The burial will follow at the Bethel Cemetery in Cordele, Georgia. Everyone in attendance is asked to please wear a mask and to practice social distancing.
On February 29, 1940 the union of Mr. Levonia Chestnut-Outlaw and Mother Nellie Burnam Outlaw was blessed with the birth of a son. A wonderful blessing, they named him Charles Wilburn Outlaw.
Born in Cordele, Crisp County, Georgia, he received his education from the public school system where he attended Southview Elementary School. He later attended Gillespie-Selden Institute.
Realizing the need for a closer relationship with the Lord, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and united with the Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church. As his relationship with the Lord grew, so did his desire to serve. He served as an Usher and later served as President of the Usher Board. He was later ordained as a Deacon. He continued to serve with a kind and understanding spirit when he later chosen as Chairman of the Deacon Board. Along with his duties at Gethsemane, he also served as President of the City-wide Ushers Union.
Deacon Outlaw loved the Lord and he took great pride in giving his best to the Lord. He was generous with his time and service to the people of God.
On Tuesday, July 12, 2022, his earthly journey came to a peaceful end. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Mr. Chris Outlaw and his siblings, Mr. Guy Edward Outlaw, Mr. Nathaniel (Mary) Outlaw and Miss Nettie Outlaw.
He leaves to mourn his passing a loving and devoted wife, Mrs. Osie Smith Outlaw of Cordele, Georgia; his loving and devoted children, Ms. Rosie Smith of Warner Robins, Georgia, Mr. Charles W. Outlaw, Jr. of West Palm Beach, Florida, Ms. Tracy O. Christian of Newbern, North Carolina; a loving and devoted stepson, Deacon Anthony Davis of Cordele, Georgia; 11 grandchildren, to include Ms. Melissa Smith and Ms. Kim Jones; six great grandchildren, to include, Mr. Kentavien "Scoot" Walker, Jr.; his in-laws, Mrs. Estelle (Jessie) Roberts of Atlanta, Georgia, Mrs. Gladys (Rufus) Boddie of Stone Mountain, Georgia, Mr. Charlie (Viola) Smith of Ellenwood, Georgia, Mr. Calvin Smith, Mrs. Magdalene Outlaw, and Mrs. Anne Outlaw all of Cordele, Georgia; a host of nieces and nephews, to include, Semitra Brown, Pamela Billingslea, Sautee Turner, Anthony Lee, Sietah Brown, Tracy Outlaw, Tammy Outlaw, Latecia Harvey, Rayden Franklyn, Michael Brown, Sr., Stella Wilson, Dadravious Brown, Tavares Smalls; a host of cousins, to include, Ms. Mateline Ford and Mr. Jeffery Sykes; a host of other relatives and many sorrowing friends, to include, Deacon Willie Smith.
