Cordele
Deacon Cossie L. Thomas of 802 South 5th Street, Cordele, Georgia died Saturday, September 10, 2022 at his residence.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, September 15, 2022 at 4:00 PM in the A. S. Clark Auditorium on the campus of the M. D. Whitest Medical Institute in Cordele, Georgia. The burial will follow at the Sunnyside Cemetery in Cordele, Georgia. Everyone in attendance is asked to please wear a mask and to practice social distancing.
On November 27, 1949, the union of Mr. Cossie Lee Thomas and Mrs. Lizzie Brown Thomas, was blessed with the birth of a son. Given the name Cossie Lee, he was better known to his family and friends by the nickname, "Nat".
Born in Dooly County, Georgia, he received his education from the Crisp County Public School System.
He loved the Lord and enjoyed worshipping and fellowshipping with his family at Hope In the Word Ministry.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. An inventor and craftsman, he was a role model for many young people. Often he shared words of wisdom with the young men he would meet along the way.
A member of the National Black Growers Family, he loved family and he enjoyed special family gatherings.
On Saturday, September 10, 2022 he peacefully traded the cares of this life for a life free of all pain. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Lakisha Williams.
Reflecting upon his life, he leaves cherished memories to his loving and devoted wife, Minister Vernell Staley Thomas of Cordele, Georgia; his loving and devoted children, Mr. Cedric (Betty) Quarterman of Cordele, Georgia, Mr. Cossie L. (Jacqueline) Harvey of Miami, Florida, Mrs. Falicia (Lee Arness) Edwards and Mr. Carlton Thomas both of Cordele, Georgia, Mr. Edward B. Staley of Perry, Georgia, Ms. Tammy Harvey and Mr. Ernest D. (Bridget) Harvey both of Kathleen, Georgia, Mrs. Carla (Wayne) Butts of Cordele, Georgia and Ms. Tereon Harvey of Warner Robins, Georgia; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; his caring brother, Mr. Oscar L. Thomas of Jacksonville, Florida; his loving sister, Mrs. Irma Jean Johnson of Cordele, Georgia; his son-in-law, Mr. Darren Williams of Cordele, Georgia; his sisters-in-law, Mrs. Sandra Jackson and Mrs. Florine (Billy) Harrell; his brother-in-law, Mr. Michael (Louise) Staley; a host of nieces and nephews, to include a special niece and caregiver, Ms. Brenda Stretchen of Cordele, Georgia; a host of cousins, other relatives and many sorrowing friends.
