Deacon David Lee Chambliss, Sr. of 1806 South 10th Street, Cordele, Georgia died Friday, November 3, 2023 at the home of his daughter.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 11:00 AM in the sanctuary of the New Oak Grove Baptist Church in Cordele, Georgia.  The burial will follow at the Bethel Cemetery in Cordele, Georgia.

On Thursday, September 28, 1933 a handsome baby boy was born in Sumter County, Georgia to the late Mr. Clay Chambliss, Sr. and the late Mrs. Corene Johnson Chambliss.  They named him David Lee, he was the third of twelve children.  He was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.

The family moved to Crisp County in the early 40's. "Dave" as he was affectionately called received his primary education in both Sumter and Crisp counties.

At an early age, Dave united with the Friendship Baptist Church (Kinney Side Track) and became an ordained Deacon in 1957.

He was joined in holy matrimony in January 1956 to Ms. Frances Parker Chambliss and to this union four children were born,  David, Jr., Willie, James and Sharon.

He later joined the New Oak Grove Baptist Church where he was a dedicated member that served faithfully and willingly as a  Deacon. He was honored as a "pioneer" and the oldest Deacon at New Oak Grove Baptist Church.

Later in life he met and married Mrs. Gussie Pearl Jordan Chambliss.  She preceded him in death in February 2008.

Dave began working on the farm as a very young boy and was always a very hardworking man. He began his employment with Homestead Homes, formerly All American Mobile Homes in 1964. He remained a dedicated and loyal employee until his retirement in 1996.

He was called "Jim Brown" because he looked so much like him.  He had a great memory and was a true story teller who kept everyone laughing with his jokes.  He enjoyed working with his big hands.

Dave was a known mechanic and taught his sons this trade. He worked on anything that had a motor from cars, trucks to lawnmowers.  He enjoyed watching Westerns, "Sanford and Sons", "In the Heat of the Night" and the Motor Trend Channel.

On Friday, November 3, 2023, he was called from this life to life eternal.

He leaves cherished memories to his loving and devoted children, Mr. Willie Roy Carter (Phyllis) of Columbus, Ohio, Mr. Robert Lee Hicks of Valdosta, Georgia, Mr. David Lee Chambliss, Jr., Mr. Willie Frank Chambliss, Mr. James Edward Chambliss (Kathy), Ms. Sharon Denise Chambliss, Mr. Ferrante Jordan, and Ms. Cheryl Jordan all of Cordele, Georgia and Mr. Michael Jordan (Kanika) of Gulfport, Mississippi; 16 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; a host of great, great grandchildren; his sisters, Mrs. Daisy Bell Austin of Vero Beach, Florida, Mrs. Mamie Lee Connor (Noah) of Cocoa Beach, Florida and Ms. Ola Mae Chambliss of Vero Beach, Florida; four sisters-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; other relatives and many sorrowing friends, to include his beloved New Oak Grove Baptist Church family.
