Alongside his carpentry, he worked tirelessly on farms to provide for and care deeply for his family.

In addition to his  leadership role, he was the church's minister of music, sharing his talents by playing for the choir and enriching the worship experience with his gift for gospel music. He played for numerous church choirs and lent his voice to many gospel groups. For many years, he was a dedicated member of the Gospel Sunlighters and Sensational Six.  His passion for gospel music was a familiar presence in the community—you could often find him leading devotions, singing solo, or playing the keyboard with heartfelt spirit.
