Deacon Lonnie Clayton of 581 Felton Avenue, Byromville, Georgia passed away Sunday, November 10, 2024 at his residence.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 12:00 Noon in the sanctuary of Forest Chapel Baptist Church in Pinehurst, Georgia. The burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery.
Deacon Lonnie Clayton was one of the welcomed children born to the late Freeman Clayton, Sr., and the late Mary Ruth Bryant. Born in Dooly County, he received his education from the Forest Chapel Church School.
He accepted Christ as Lord of his life and united with the Forest Chapel Baptist Church. As a member of Forest Chapel, he served as an ordained Deacon and member of the Usher Board. Deacon Clayton loved the Lord and his church.
Lonnie enjoyed several hobbies; some favorites were growing peppers and making pepper sauce, which he would share with his family and friends. He was also known to be a diehard Atlanta Braves fan and a huge drag racing fan.
A loving father and grandfather, Deacon Clayton, would do whatever he could to help anyone in need. He especially enjoyed making memories with his family.
On Sunday, November 10, 2024, he transitioned from this life. He is also preceded in death by his son, Lonnie Clayton, Jr.; his sisters, Mussolinie Young and Annetta Clayton; and his brothers, McArthur Clayton, Freeman Clayton, Jr., and Luther J. Clayton.
Memories will be cherished by his children, Sherry Clayton of Pinehurst, Georgia, Shalonda (Granada) Ridley of Unadilla, Georgia, Adam L. Clayton of Byromville, Georgia, Spencer Cross and Chubasco Cross of Unadilla, Georgia; 18 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his sisters, Willie Dell Coleman of Lilly, Georgia, Inez Glenn of Vienna, Georgia and Almetia Clayton of Dooling, Georgia; his brothers, Abraham (Dorothy) Clayton of Lilly, Georgia, Marcus Leon (Earlie) Clayton of Byromville, Georgia, and John Thomas of Lilly, Georgia; his aunts, George Eva Spivey and Frank Parker of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; a host of nieces and nephews, to include Glenda Young, Roshika Clayton, Paula Coleman, and Shon Foster Felton; many cousins, other relatives and many sorrowing, to include, Ruby Lane and Geneva West.
