Deacon Willie B. Shivers of 1909 South Joe Wright Drive, Cordele, Georgia died Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at his residence.

The funeral service will be held Sunday, September 1, 2024 at 10:00 AM at the J. W. Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Cordele, Georgia.  The burial will follow at the Spring Hill Church Cemetery in Cordele, Georgia.

Everyone entering the funeral home for visitations or services is required to wear a mask and to practice social distancing.  A mask must be worn throughout the stay.  You must supply your own mask.

Mr. Adolphus Shivers and Mrs. Louise Lamar Shivers were blessed with the birth of a son, Willie B., whom they dearly loved.  He was born on  October 25, 1937 in Cordele, Crisp County, Georgia.

Willie B. received his early education from the Spring Hill School district.  Early in his life he united with the Gum Creek Baptist Church where he was ordained as a deacon.  He also served faithfully as an usher.  In 2001, he joined People of Faith Christian Church where he continued his service as a faithful member.  A true soldier in the Army of the Lord, he served until his health declined.

A man of wisdom and strength, he worked as a farm laborer until he could no longer do it.  When not working around the house, he could be found napping in his yard and spending time with his neighbors and friends.  Well respected within the Newtown community, watching Westerns and "his" Atlanta Braves were two of his favorite pastimes.

Attending church and family activities gave him great joy and he always had a word and a prayer on standby when needed.  Many things brought him joy, but most of all he loved the Lord and his family.  He truly believed in spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ wherever he went.

On January 6, 1962 he married his "love" Nellie.  Together they shared joys and sorrows of life, always trusting in the Lord along the way.

His son, Travis Shivers, Sr.; his parents, Adolphus and Louise, along with his siblings, Joseph Shivers, Johnny Shivers, Edith Brown and Daisy Battle, preceded him in death.  He is also preceded in death by his beloved dog, Roxy.  He heard a voice we couldn't hear; saw a light we could not see; felt a presence we did not know and he peacefully surrendered on Tuesday,  August 27, 2024.

Reflecting upon his life's journey, he leaves his faithful and loving wife of 62 years, Mrs. Nellie Shivers of Cordele, Georgia; his loving and devoted children, Mr. Buford Shivers of Atlanta, Georgia, Ms. Easter Patrick of Cordele, Georgia, and Mrs. Wanda (Ray) Stokes of Palm Bay, Florida; his beloved grandchildren, the very devoted, Ms. Acketta Patrick of Kathleen, Georgia and Mr. Travis Shivers, Jr. of Fort Valley, Georgia, Mr. Christopher (Jessica) Davis of Hendersonville, North Carolina, Mrs. Sharhonda (Marthana) Harrell of Hawkinsville, Georgia, Mr. Ahmad (Jessica) Shivers and Mr. Te'Michael Tucker both of Atlanta, Georgia; 16 great grandchildren; three great, great grandchildren; his in-laws, Mrs.  Lillie Mathis, Deacon James (Willie Mae) Byrom, Deacon Eddie Byrom, Ms. Ruth Felton, Mrs. Elizabeth (Frank) Brown, Mrs. Joann (Nelson)  Barrett, and Mrs. Linda (Ray) Rollins all of Cordele, Georgia, Mr. Ceaser Byrom, Jr. of Titusville, Florida, Mrs. Virginia (Wayne) Byrom of Atlanta, Georgia, and Mr. Bernard (Jaylene) Byrom of Fort Mitchell, Alabama; his nieces and nephews, the devoted, Ms. Denise Brown of Perry, Georgia, Dr. Louise Hicks, Minister Rita Faye Pickens, Mrs. Linda Collier, Mr. Tim Brown, Mr. Ricky Brown and Ms. Penny Gales; a host of other nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and many sorrowing friends, to include his caretaker, Ms. Shon Jones and his devoted friends, Mr. David Jones, Mr. Walter Mobley, Sr., Mr. Arthur Walker, Apostle Morris Jones, Mr. Montrell Dowell, and Mr. Randy Parker.
