Obituary

Chairman Deacon Charles Perry, Sr. affectionately known as "Bo Pete" of 1808 Dorris Street, Cordele, Georgia died Friday, January 7, 2011 at his residence. The funeral service will be held Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 11:00 a. m. in the sanctuary of the New Oak Grove Baptist Church, 612 West 20th Avenue, Cordele, Georgia. The burial will follow at the Pleasant Valley Church Cemetery in Pinehurst, Georgia. Deacon Charles Henry Perry, Sr. was born on July 29, 1921 in Twiggs County, Georgia. He was born to the late Mr. Dan Perry and the late Mrs. Mary Hicks Perry. He grew up in Twiggs County and received his education in the Twiggs County School System. He worked as a farmer for many years. He then moved to Cordele, Georgia. Upon moving to Cordele, he became employed by the Crisp County School System. He devoted many years of loyal and dedicated employment to the system until his retirement. He felt the need for Christ in his life so he united with the Beautiful Zion Baptist Church and served faithfully. He was ordained as a deacon and served with great commitment and humbleness as the Chairman of the Board of Deacons until death. He was joined in holy matrimony to the former Miss Mary L. Davis. God blessed them with 66 years of marriage. This union produced five offspring, one of whom, Mrs. Johnnie Mae Vines of Cleveland, Ohio, precedes him in death. On Friday, January 7, 2011, Deacon Perry answered the Master's call and peacefully went home to be with the Lord. Along with his parents and daughter, he is also preceded in death by his sisters, Mrs. Louise Young, Mrs. Lucille Key, and Mrs. Elzada Clark; his aunts and uncles, Mrs. Lucy King, Mrs. Jessie Mims, Mrs. Josephine Bryant, Mrs. Ida Glover, Mrs. Smith Bell Brown, Mr. Joe Hicks, Mr. Noah Hicks, Mr. Roy Hick, and Mr. Henry Hicks. Deacon Perry's life will always be cherished by his loving and devoted wife, Mother Mary Davis Perry of Cordele, Georgia; his loving and devoted children, Mrs. Patricia Morrow and her husband, Bishop Ernest Morrow of Miami, Florida, Ms. Carolyn Bolton of Cordele, Georgia, Minister Charles H. Perry, Jr. and his wife, Mrs. Gale Perry of Rex, Georgia, and Mrs. Angela Walker and her husband, Deacon Jesse Walker of Cordele, Georgia; a beloved godson, Deacon Joe Eddie Brown and his wife, Mrs. Rosemary Brown of Cordele, Georgia; his loving grandchildren, Mr. James Bolton and his wife, Mrs. Tandy Bolton, Mr. Eric Perry and his wife, Mrs. Antiqua Perry, Minister Courtney Perry and his wife, Mrs. Crissy Perry, Minister Terrance Walker and his wife, Mrs. LaChele Walker, Ms. Patrina Morrow Willis, Ms. Katrina Vines, Mrs. Katrina McCloud and her husband, Deacon Jeff McCloud, Miss Jasmine Walker, and Miss Deidra Walker; 17 great grandchildren; a loving sister, Mrs. Maggie Johnson of Capital Heights, Maryland; his aunt, Mrs. Ruby Hightower of Jeffersonville, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many sorrowing friends.
