Mrs. Carolyn Sue Barner Colson of 314 West 25th Avenue, Cordele, Georgia died Monday, May 13, 2024 at her residence.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at 12:00 Noon in the sanctuary of the Gethsemane Baptist Church in Cordele, Georgia. The burial will follow at the Sunnyside Cemetery in Cordele, Georgia.
On July 25, 1946, the union of Lucious and Seabell Barner was blessed with the birth of a beautiful baby girl. They named their daughter Carolyn Sue.
As a child she accepted Christ as Lord of her life. She was a member of the Gethsemane Baptist Church.
Born in Crisp County, Georgia, she received her education from the public school system. Sue was a 1965 graduate of A. S. Clark High School. Her natural athletic skills allowed her to excel on the basketball court. A proud A. S. Clark Ram, she would become the starting guard on the varsity basketball team.
Blessed with a heart to serve, she was employed as a CNA at Royal Care Nursing Home. She devoted many years of faithful and dedicated service to the care and concern of others until retiring.
On Monday, May 13, 2024, she peacefully answered the Master's call. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Kelcy Colson, Sr. and siblings, James Barner, Lucious Barner, Jr., Louise Harrington, George Barner, Jerry Barner and Cora Lee Barner Robinson.
Many wonderful memories of her life will be cherished by her a devoted friend and former husband, Bennie L. Colson of Perry, Georgia, her beloved and devoted sons, Erskine D. Colson of New Jersey, Vidal (Kimberly) Colson of Cordele, Georgia and Kelby (Shavone) Colson, Sr. of McDonough, Georgia; 11 loving grandchildren; five great grandchildren; her loving sisters, Pearlie Mae Barner of Cordele, Georgia, Dorothy Alston of Atlanta, Georgia, and Martha Ruffin of Warner Robins, Georgia; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many sorrowing friends, to include, Mary Kendrick, Barbara Coley, Ellen Woodson, and Olivia Grant all of Cordele, Georgia.
