Ms. Betty Nell Deriso Thomas of 256 Railroad Street, Desoto, Georgia, died Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at her residence.
The funeral service will be held Sunday, August 31, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the sanctuary of Marthana Living Way of Christ in Desoto, Georgia. The burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery.
Our dearly loved, Betty Nell Deriso Thomas, was born September 1, 1952, in Lee County, Georgia. "Nell," as her family and friends lovingly called her, was the cherished daughter of McArthur Deriso and Marie Walker Deriso.
A beloved member of the Desoto, Georgia, community, she received her education from the Lee County public school system. Betty was a dedicated member of Marthana Living Way of Christ in Desoto, Georgia, where she faithfully served as an usher, a member of the Women's Ministry, and a treasured voice in the choir. Her unwavering faith and commitment to her church family were evident in all she did, leaving a profound impact on those around her.
Beyond her church, Betty was an active participant in the local Community Birthday Club, bringing joy and celebration to others throughout the year. Her warm spirit and infectious laughter brightened every gathering, creating cherished memories for all who knew her.
Betty had a special talent for cooking, with a particular flair for preparing collard greens—a dish that was loved by family and friends alike. Her kitchen was a place of warmth and comfort, where she nourished not only bodies but also hearts. As a loving mother and devoted grandmother, Betty was a pillar of strength and a great provider for her family.
Betty Nell Deriso Thomas was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Bruce Deriso (Yolanda); her granddaughter, Andrieene McGarrah; her siblings: Bobbie Jean Brown, Wilma Deriso, Arthur Mae Deriso, Willie Lee Deriso, Bobby Lee Deriso, Franklin Laramore, and Larry (Barbara) Walker. She peacefully transitioned from this life to life everlasting on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Betty's legacy of love, faith, and joy will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. While her physical presence will be deeply missed, her spirit will live on in the hearts of all those she touched. Her legacy of love and kindness will be remembered by her loving daughters, Stacy Deriso of Desoto, Georgia and Diffany Deriso of Americus, Georgia; her cherished grandchildren: Courtney, Christopher, Michael, Dasmin, Corey, Chelsea, Dorian, Xavier, Jada, Dalin, Ari'anna, Braxton, Bruce Jr., Ma'kiwen, KaDarius, David, Dayla, Ariel, and JaKorie; 20 great-grandchildren; her loving sisters: Ja'Keria Deriso of Americus, Georgia, Ramona (Walter) Hollis, and Cynthia (Jerry) Allen both of Americus, Georgia; her caring brothers: McArthur Deriso, Jr. of Cordele, Georgia, Eric (Dannie) Laramore of Atlanta, Georgia, and Julius (Fannie) Deriso of Cordele, Georgia; her beloved aunts and uncles: Gloria Walker and Bertha Deriso both of Americus, Georgia, Dorothy (Walter) Fuller, and Arthur (Bettye) Deriso of Desoto, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, including Annie Clark, and many sorrowing friends.
